I think it was iirc but apparently Joey did play in the next game against the Cowboys in Townsville where they won 60 to 24 with a 48-0 halftime lead before being put on the shelf for the remainder of that season.
All of this wouldn’t have happened if Josh Perry didn’t run into Joey against Manly in 2003 23 years ago which lead to that neck injury which later caused him to retire four years later in 2007.
Also for those who attended the game, anyone notice how they don’t play Morgan Evan’s “Long Live the Newcastle Knights” after they won? Same with how they don’t play “Better” by the Screaming Jets when the Knights run onto the field in the first half.
With Keary not joining us as our specialist halves coach for 2026, i wouldn’t mind looking into signing Brett Kimmorley as our halves coach, recently left the Wests Tigers as NRLW Head coach and is also a Knights old boy too before leaving for the Hunter Mariners at Super League, he’d do a world...
That’s why I’ve kind of labelled us as the Charlotte Hornets of the NRL due to our poor front office and terrible decisions since Joey retired (Albeit we won two premierships and the Hornets have won none NBA Championships).
I think Cheika would work if he had the correct assistants.
Head Coach: Michael Cheika
Assistant Coach: David Kidwell
Defence Coach: Brett White
Kicking and halves coaches: Jarrod Mullen and Brett Kimmorley
