Knights Injury and Suspension Updates

J-SAF now will have 3 games of his suspension up minimum with the prelim made
If only it was a grade 1 or a careless charge instead of reckless

Just done some digging and will answer my own questions….! I mean, how ****ed is it for JSaf that the final game of his suspension could be the bloody Grand Final!! I read a comment on FB and hence googling that Knights should appeal the actual game he was sent off was the first game served. But sadly doesn’t work that way.

There’s not really been any updates on Trey but the announcement of his injury sounded pretty conclusive for him too. For the club and our Trey and JSaf, just gutting! But we will go on and we can and will win without them.

The Kings are dead, all hail Kings Cody & Lachie!!!!

What was J Saf’s suspecting? 5 weeks I think…?? Also, silly question, but what’s the crack with Mooney? Is he done even if we make the big one?
Mooney will just about have done 6 weeks (the normal time for a fracture to heal) by next week, but he probably hasn't been training to keep himself fit on the off chance we make the GF.
I won't be surprised if they do a scan to check if his fracture is healed and he has done some solid training for a few weeks to give himself a chance for number 19 if we need him, but it's a long shot.

Interesting. From a standards and culture perspective I’d like to know the players are doing whatever training they can do around injury management until the season is conclusively over.

If he’s good to do a 20 minute stint he should be in the team over Saulo in my opinion. Cody, Friz, Lachie and a short stint from Trey is solid. Especially with Lucas back too.

Crossland referred straight to judiciary. Usually that means probably minimum 4 games, with it being high profile player and type of injury, they probably unfairly make an example and may end up like 6-8 games

The tackle that broke Nathan Cleary's leg was not a “hip drop” done with intention. It was a random collision. Contact was made, the body swung around the ball carrier, momentum carried him down. That is rugby league. It’s not a crime scene. Should defenders let go of a player they have hold of after initial contact fails in case they’re heading towards the ground, hip/freckle first? Off ya scone.

The sport is being policed largely by people who have never even played it at a level where the fatigue, collision, and the errors in judgement are the texture of the game.

Using body weight to complete a tackle is not intent to harm. Requiring players to disengage mid-tackle to avoid "misdirecting" their weight is not realism. It’s fantasy.

You cannot referee randomness and
you cannot remove fatigue from a contact sport without removing the sport itself.

A send-off was excessive. A penalty, at most. It was bad luck, not malice.

Nathan is a good man and the unfortunate victim however I believe he’d think the same as me on this. I may be wrong.

No one wants to see a player of Cleary's calibre or any player from juniors through to grade go down like that but this does not change the analysis.

‘Hip drop’ is an unfair label given to a last ditch effort and positionally usually the worst case scenario for making a tackle. Nobody wants to miss the initial contact and fall down the side of the ball runner, holding on for life so not to miss the tackle and get blasted during review Monday morning. The alternative is ‘LET GO’ after initial contact doesn’t stick.

Surveilling ordinary collision, slowing it down, and ruling on it as if intent were visible is not justice. It is the slow dismantling of the game by administrators who have never themselves been in the muck.

Shut up and rack off, nerds
Love from the fans 👍

The Hip Drop surely hasn’t just come along, surely that type of tackle occurred in seasons gone but seems to be occurring more frequently, likely because of the technical use, slow motion replays by Bunker, I don’t recall hearing it many years ago, decades even.
Injuries are now occurring from these tackles, serious injuries and why now and not say 10 years ago.
Nathan Cleary I read somewhere has two broken legs as he was carrying an injury from the previous week, somewhere duty of care should have been used, did the existing injury create a situation, slipped as tackled, that then created the Hip Drop.
I don’t understand all this and am concerned with where it might go.

Excellent post @Frank McWilliams

I thought a hip drop was when the tackler lifted his feet off the ground, placing all his wait on the attacking player. Than the tackler whilst hanging off the body of the attacking player swinging from the side to behind the player, falling on the legs, of the attacking player.
That's what I thought the rule said.
I didn’t think Crossland did any of that. Crossland should not of been sent from the field. I hope the Knights have a good barrister as Crossland should not be facing these ridiculous charges just because the chin has weak bones.
Crossland was sliding down the body in my opinion trying to get to the legs. Cleary fell before Crossland could put his arms around his legs.
Causing the tackler to land on the attacking players legs.
Sliding down the attacking players body while making a tackle is not a hip drop.
That is what Crossland was doing Sliding down while making a tackle.
Very reckless or intentional dangerous contact, is a send off offence. Crossland showed none of those traits he should not have been sent from the field.

Heard someone saying (on FB so you know it’s true) that the actual break occurred before the hip drop mechanism. Any one else see it that way?
