The really eye catching thing was the 1 on 1 try saving tackles, but they were the cherry on top of a great defensive showing across the board. Always pressuring hard from marker when it's his assignment, checking & releasing without getting caught flat footed, never turned his shoulders in, etc. It's a lot of little things which add up to him having the ability to do the big things right. That's the kind of debut that has you thinking he'll be starting there in round 1 next year. Terrific stuff.
 
Yeah I don't think he's going to be a yardage monster, but for me that's the "nice extra thing to have" out of your right centre. The defensive side is so so important and he looked like he'll be very dynamic with a bit of space. Very excited to see him hopefully have a good long run with us.

Deisal Hagan (reserve grade) and Addie Hagan (reserve grade women's)

Fane Finau (NRLW) and Junior Finau (AJ Cup and country under 16s)

It's not the sole thing that's going to decide it, but I've seen a lot of Hunt now and it's not at all clear to me what his position is.

You watch Winter for 20 seconds and: "Yep, this is a right centre."

I would lean towards Hunt being a key reserve in all 5 back five spots. Which means he'll get plenty of game time, realistically.

The change this year with 6 man bench has killed usefulness of a versatile number 14. But I feel Hunt will be the first genuine specialist number 18 in the nrl. He covers 1 - 6 within a game and trains exclusively with first grade. Covers short term injuries when the nsw cup replacement needs more time. Im hoping winter is straight in next year and hunt maintains his value doing exactly what he has been doing.
 
Yeah the math on that front has changed totally now hey.

Optimal bench is now something like two props one versatile forward a hooker a half and a 1-5 utility.

I do wonder if Sandon would have been signed if we knew this rule change was coming, as handy as it's been having him.
