Round 4 - Broncos vs Knights - 1:45pm Sunday 26 July - Totally Workwear Stadium

Kirkpatrick will replace Meakes, will be interesting to see who replaces Kirkpatrick. Morris is the obvious utility left in the top squad but would be an uninspiring choice. They might just shoehorn Vette-Welsh in there. Charley Lahmert is a dummy half and arguably our best junior but it feels a bit early for her.

Davis-Welsh played lock in reserve grade and had a very strong game.
I think she has recently been injured, but I think she could give us 30 minutes off the bench in the forwards.

I'm hoping Vette-Welsh continues to add something in the 14 role. She has good hands, good footwork and is a fairly big body so she can be dangerous around the middle and edges. Even though she is obviously the first one up if someone in the back 5 goes down I think her days of being a key back 5 starter are over.

Hope someone bashes Southwell. Predebon can do the job.
Wouldn’t surprise if Jesse hides out on the wing for 90% of the game and comes in to kick and just moves in to take a few runs close to the line

If Predeborn can hit her in a tackle like the first run Millie Elliot had against her after she left, Tayla flattened her that day so would be good little bit of payback for her commences last year

Though incredibly disappointed at Jess leaving, I don't wish her anything but good luck.

Of course, it's a legitimate tactic to run our bigs at their halves, but Jess has always been a solid defender as far as I remember. Can't see the Broncos need to hide her in defence. But, neutralising Jess and Tamika would give us some real hope in this game.

Especially after we were robbed against the Chooks. Jasmine, though, is a big out.

Upton is the one worth targeting.
She'll run riot if she is comfortable, but put a big hit on her and she'll go pretty quiet, or she always did when playing for us.
The problem is, she's pretty hard to catch. I don't think Predebon will be able to get her - Roche might get her if she is keen to risk another suspension.

If Kalyn Ponga & Dylan Brown sabotaged a potentially amazing team with interpersonal drama and a lack of off-field professionalism, and then both rocked up at a "bigger club" and potentially turned that other team into a juggernaut, we'd be very very down on them. We would want to see then get smashed. I feel like if I don't look at Tamika and Jesse the same way, I'm a sexist.

Send them to the shadow realm Tayla.

As I've said before, the women have to take the money where they can get it, because only the very best can make a living at the moment, and it's not much more than they could get working as a teacher or similar, as many of them do.
Tamika Upton would never have left the Broncos for the Knights if Wests didn't decide to buy a few premierships.
Sidney Taylor is only here for the money.
Jess decided to go all in as a 16 year old to make her life's work Rugby League.

I don't like the role money plays in men's or Women's, but it's much worse in women's, they have to go where the dollars are if they want to stay off the dole in later life.

Have Kalyn and Dylan won us back-to-back premierships first in this hypothetical? Feel like that's important context.

Jesse had a player option for 2 more years but was a free agent, she didn't break her contract. Understand the disappointment with her being a local especially but for all of the rumour and innuendo, every time she's been asked she has very bluntly said she wants to keep learning as a player and feels she's finally doing that again at the Broncos. That's not the usual empty cliche. She had to be talked into staying for the last year here in the first place after asking for a release (and the Broncos still had Broughton and Brigginshaw in the halves at that point). She didn't want to be at the Knights anymore and still would've gone elsewhere if things didn't work out with the Broncos.

Upton was a mercenary from the beginning and was still the most important figure in the only actual success this club has experienced for 25 years. Almost single-handedly won the second grand final. Don't have to throw her a party but I'd take that outcome every day of the week.
