Round 2 - Roosters vs Knights - 5:15pm Saturday 11 July - Allianz Stadium

We play the big 3 - Roosters, Broncos and Warriors in the first 6 rounds.
It would be nice to win at least 1 of those games, but even if we lose all 3, I think we should be in a position to go on a long winning streak and improve every game till the finals - and if our young players like Finau, Taylor, Yeo, Mercedes, Kirkpatrick develop really well over the season, I think we will be a threat in the finals.

In short, we only need to learn a lot from this game, but of course, a win would be great.

Lucy Spain!!!! That’s so good, she deserves this, been great at FB in Cup. Great speed and solid ball skills.
Bo’s passing game was spot on last week for cup. Her defending in front line will be interesting though.

Not expecting a win but an aggressive performance in attack and D. Make em earn it

Lilly-Ann White out for up to 8 weeks with a syndesmosis injury
Evie Jones ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury
Ella-Jaye Harrison-Leaunoa out for the season with a torn ACL
Damita Betham (development player) out for the season after shoulder surgery
Bloody hell 4 players essentially gone for the season in round 1.
That’s really bad luck for Lilly, she had a pretty good game and looked to have gained a lot of confidence. Now she’s basically going to miss the majority of the season

The Wahs had a pretty bad injury toll from Round 1 as well. Not ideal at all

Feel for Lily because as I understand it Spain is one of our best prospects so she could be a few good games from Lucy away from not getting a look in when she’s fit again.

Evie can’t catch a break. Ella-Jaye one for the future though & already has a long term deal, so this shouldn’t mess her career up too bad.

Still looks like a strong side with how good the 2-5 & forward pack looked. I know a lot of us have our misgivings with Jeffries but I do think there’s a clear vision & identity to his teams. We are ahead of the curve in developing a very NRL men’s playing style where the back 5 are all big yardage contributors and the middle forwards emphasise pouring energy into defence & rarely take early set carries. Every other side including the Big Two carries players in their back five who rarely crack 50 metres.

The road to a premiership if we kept Jesse Southwell was being the best field position team and nothing changes with Dibb as our main boot. They’ll never be able to out finesse or out-skill Roosters/Broncos. It’ll be about outfighting them.

Tooheys news today said we lost an assistant coach this year but picked up Jillaroos head of high performance Shannon MacLachlan.

I think that goes a long way to explaining why everyone looked so much fitter in round one.

I thought it was the longer pre-season, but we easily out-muscled a Cronulla side that looked great on paper and we have struggled to beat for the last few years.

I should mention the reserve grade squad are destroying sides with their fitness as well.

Vette-Welsh will be back at fullback next week barring injury or something spectacular from Spain.

Hoping for the best with Spain but I don’t have high expectations, she’s really Steven Bradbury’d her way into a debut. She’s not dissimilar to White, but she’s also 4 years older so wouldn’t say she’s a better prospect.

I read Spain only just started playing league 2 years ago and has only played 20 games so far.

I think Lucy Spain played touch at a very high level.
You could see how good her skills were when setting up Stains for all those tries last year.
