The Bears, I believe, are effectively getting an extra $500k on the cap. Too little too late. The NRL F'd up by not thinking about how this club could build a roster in one season when they weren't allowed to negotiate with players any earlier than Nov.1 and with no other advantages, and the Bears F'd up by accepting a re-entry to the league on terms that basically doomed them to failure.
Also, because they didn't plan this out sensibly and get all the clubs on board, there's now a clear conflict of interest, given that the Bears are owned by the NRL.
I want the Bears to succeed because it's good for the game to be a truly national sport, but it's beyond belief that the same crew that saved the code during COVID shutdowns have stuffed this up so badly.
The Bears will be lucky to win a game in their first season.
