NRL Round 3 - Knights Vs Warriors - 3:00pm Saturday, 21st March - McDonald Jones Stadium

I’d say we’d have won with those 2 there. Ball movement wasn’t anywhere near as crisp. A lot of passes on the ground slowed things up and the drop ball didn’t help
 
Gotta give credit to the warriors. They are true contenders this season so we shouldn’t be beating ourselves up too much over the result tonight.

The refereeing was poor but we all know the NRL’s agenda this season is to crackdown on ill-discipline so we need to be better in that area. We also shot ourselves in the foot many times with schoolboy level errors and missed tackles.

I’m not sure, we might have gotten up on the scoreboard but their pigs absolutely worked ours.

Thought the sin bin was rough considering the other teams haven’t copped one yet. Roosters v wahs in round 1 was an obvious bin.
 
Overall a poor performance. I think we got hard done by the ref. Be interesting if Hollbrook brings anything up.

But we started dropping the ball. Which compounded to fatigue and not having any energy in attack. Smith was very poor defensively. I reckon a couple off misses directly led to a couple of tries. Put Brown back in that doesn’t happen. Typical Gamble game, some good then some bad.

I don’t think as dire as last year. Wahs a very good side, can see them going deep into the comp. Not confident against the dogs next week. Mooney possibly out will hurt us.

Sharpe into six, hopefully less pressure on Smith. I think Hunt was pretty solid. A couple of errors but overall pretty good.

Unfortunately we need to ride out this period with out Brown and Ponga. Once Brown is back I would be putting Sharpe at FB.

Yep and it kind of makes me feel bad to say it would be handy to find a player who can give us what he’s giving us but just with a bit more physicality. But also no one has been showing up under fatigue as consistently as he has.
 
Holbrook: Made basic errors, discipline was bad, didn't see it coming during the week. Says we need to fix our discipline and control the game if we want refereeing calls to go our way.

J-Saf says players need to look in the mirror.

Pretty standard press conference stuff.
 
Disappointing game, and I think we’ll be missing either Gags or Mooney next week.
Anyway, Sharpe back next week. We’re getting the dogs at a good time, they’re certainly not settled yet and aren’t looking good in attack. Onwards and upwards
 
Not the end of the world.

We did exactly what we couldn’t do, which was drop the ball and have poor discipline.

Without the starting 3 spine players out it just wasn’t what was needed. Sad for fans, re-group, try snagging a couple wins before KP and Brown are back.
 
On the way back home. So I will only leave a short comment here.

Manly and Cows gave us a false sense of how much we had improved. The last 2 weeks showed us that we aren't getting the spoon again. But this week demonstrated that we have plenty of work to do to match it with the best teams. You can point out our 3 outs but the fact is the forwards lost us this game, not the backs. KP, Brown or Sharpe don't make a difference when your pack is getting humped as bad as we did tonight.

The thing is, when you lose the ruck as decisively as we did, the natural defence mechanism is to slow the ruck by risking six-agains and penalties which is what happened to us tonight and what happened to Canberra and the Chooks the 2 weeks prior against these guys. You can blame the refs all you like, he wasn't the reason we lost control of the ruck. That won't change until we improve our forward stock imo.
 
Not as gutted about the result as I had the feeling we'd lose today.

Warriors were always going a being tougher task than either the Cows or Manly.

Discipline, defence and handling all need work and hopefully Sharpe can return next week.
