Justin Holbrook discussion

So he played for us in 1999 and 2000 and was let go for the 2001 season.
Michael Hagan became coach in 2001.
So Hagan sacked him as a player and selected him as a coach 25 years later.

I wonder if Holbrook was thinking "not this guy again" when he fronted the selection committee.

On the other hand, both Hagan and Holbrook worked as assistants to Mal Meninga for Australia - so they have worked together in recent years.

Interesting that Holbrook and Ben Jefferies were both lower grade halfbacks at the Knights in 1999 and 2000 - but Jefferies might have been in the juniors.

Saw a comment from him saying one thing about Newcastle that doesn't change is tough players playing a style that represents the town, then goes on to say how he is going to bring that back, because it's changed.

I think Holbrook’s decision to leave newy back then would have more been shaped by the fact he was behind a handy halfback known as Joey Johns and played 5 games in two seasons… probably went for a chance elsewhere

It’s lovely to wake up with hope of better days ahead for our team.

We have a new head coach who is going to consult the spine players before he decides which positions where they will play.

It’s good to be a Knights tragic again.

So Brett Kimmorley has quit his job as Wests NRLW coach.
No word on a future job.

So we have former Knights halfbacks Holbrook, Jefferies, Green, Dobson, Mullen all onboard, and I think Hagan is back in the fold after O'Brien didn't want him.

We obviously need Kimmorley as an assistant, and maybe Morris.

I wouldn't read too much in to the cliche stuff.

Of course that's what he will say, PR and all.

I am ignoring it all until we see some evidence of how he is going to change things through pre season and trials, plus first few home games.

They are a professional sporting organisation and should play a style that works for the teams squad and against our opposition. Not a style the town expects.

The town just expects wins.

I think we need to go back to our blue collar roots. We are a blue collar town and need to embrace that.
Funny how you never hear the Raiders say we really want to represent the white collar public servants of the capital. They’re too busy trying to be a good team.

They’re a football team, not a bunch of tradies. I want them to look like they represent a competent NRL Football club who plays a style of football that suits the players they have so they win games. That’s their job

Apologies if it's already been touched on elsewhere but does anywhere know where Holbrook is originally from?

Obviously he did some time in the lower grades here but I'd assume if he was a local junior that would've been flagged by the media or in our official announcement, and I haven't seen anything to that effect (though could easily have missed it).

Has no bearing on my opinion as to his appropriateness for the job but I'm nonetheless interested to learn more of his background.
