I’m relieved that AOB is gone and this decision at least means we should see a decent attacking team if nothing else.

I’m keen to see what Holbrook can do with Ponga, Sharpe, Brown, Best, Lucas etc.

Best of all, I can’t see us being boring anymore. Thank god

Yeah good attacking assistant =/= good attacking head coach, but at least we've seen as a head coach he's gotten good attack out of what I don't think anyone would argue is better spine talent than what we have.

Defence is another story but that seems to be an insurmountable problem for every Titans coach. Ingrained in the culture for so long now.

Smarter people than me can identify the details of why his Roosters attack overhaul worked so well, but sort of just eyeballing it, the thing that stands out is that they just do everything really, really quickly. The speed of the transition is the thing. They used to be known for these full field sweeps with up to half the team running pretty precise decoy patterns but I feel like they stripped that back heaps since he started overseeing the attack.

That way you can review at the end of the two years and see if he deserves a third

I wouldn't fret about McDermott leaving, there are apparently enough assistants to go around that Hannay can fire the entire support staff except one guy as his first act at the Titans and appoint a totally new regime from top to bottom. Great signs from the Gold Coast that their "we just need the right head coach to save us and we always have to put them in charge of everything" management approach isn't going anywhere. There are plenty of coaches who understand the principles of defensive systems who McDermott can be replaced with. There are enough around that a few clubs have four of them.
