Sack Adam O’Brien

I feel like this isn't such a risk now the CEO and recruitment are locked down long-term. Previously we've seen at the Knights through the Smith/Stone/Bennett/Stone/Brown merry-go-round all have completely different theories on recruitment. And then we've seen the same with our heads of recruitment throughout the AOB era. Between these two factors, the club has been in disarray for soooo long - short term thinking has been the norm and it's lead us on a road to nowhere.

If that club leadership and recruitment is a constant, then I'm relaxed about having a coach come in for two years and seeing if they can get the best out of the side. There (fingers crossed) won't be a need for yet another total rebuild if the coach is moved on.
I wonder if this is why they haven’t punted AOB, the fact that we have cycled through so many recruitment managers with completely different theories etc and the club are using that as the reason why the team hasn’t performed under AOB.

It would make it harder for AOB for sure, but it’s no excuse to perform as bad as we have this year in particular

It’s the only thing I can think of giving him a stay of execution

Why would Parr come out and say AOB job is safe? Backing yourself into a corner I think. But I guess the comment was to maintain a sense of stability.

The start of this year was another poor start. With a full strength side. I can’t remember one year during his tenure were we have been consistent throughout the whole year. Always relying on late charges. I see we have been lucky too with softer draws just scraping in.

We all know our record usually bundled out first week. 6 years of AOB. Well and truely time to go.

If it was broncos AOB would not have been coach in 23 after a poor 22 season.

@Kurriboy: Parr talks about AOB’s tenure starting at 12:12.

Ok, so he has said he has had no discussions with the board etc. Said the decision is up to the board, and also said his expectation is that he will see that out.

These blokes are always very cagey like Phil Gould answering questions.

I personally wouldn't read anything in to those comments towards AOB truly being safe. And he didn't say AOB will be the coach for next season full stop.

Parr and the club don't owe these media leeches anything, does anyone expect him to get there and say AOB is under review or on shaky ground?

People really do put too much faith in what is said by players and administration to the media.

They can easily fire AOB, and Parr can just say at the time those comments were accurate at the time, but at the end of each season we do a review as the club does with all positions including mine, and the decision was to head in a different direction.

Well on the plus side (if there is one) no AOB glazers can stop saying “but a rookie coach might take us backwards” as it doesn’t get worse than what’s going on now.

Second last, a very good chance we don’t win another game this year, only two points ahead of the Titans and a very real chance we collect another spoon for the kitchen.

Get him out.
Imagine needing to use the limit-case example of failure to deter 'AOB glazers' from using the argument; 'but what if it gets worse under a new coach'.

Like, what are you motivated by, exactly? Only the avoidance of extreme failure? As though certain mediocrity with a side of humiliation is preferable to the opportunity for success. Are these people too cautious to cross the road in real life. I have trouble understanding the rationale.

I can understand the club, they're financially motivated. But as a fan, wtf are you possibly thinking hoping that the club keeps him around next year.

I don't get the things could get worse part either tbh.

Yes we have made finals 4 out of 5 seasons and that sounds good isolated by itself. But the club is widely regarded as a basket case across the league, irrelevant, a laughing stock. I can't see how things can get worse than that.

I'd rather aim high and shoot for improvement and top 4, then tread water and make the 8, out 1st week and back to pre-season.

Irrespective of that, his starts to most seasons have been diabolical!
It’s as if we have a new squad every year.

So if by some miracle we make the top 4 next year with AOB, will people want him gone? Then what if he backs it up with another top 4 finish after that? Then will you still want him gone?
I'm genuinely curious about people's thoughts because I couldn't care less either way, I'll still ride the highs and lows.
I think of sticky who has had a lot of lows for a long time at the Raiders and doesn't cop it anywhere near the amount AOB has.
It's pretty hard to win the comp in the NRL and people on here seem to act the same as the Broncos board where one year your in a Grand Final and the next you have a poor year and your the enemy and out the door.
It looks like most clubs who keep their coach's around for longer periods seem to do pretty well eventually, bottom teams seem to change coach's regularly and they are funny enough still at the bottom.
Even Panthers had the same coach for a long time while the club rebuilt its culture and then swapped him out when they needed to go that step further.

Like I said I couldn't care less at this point who the coach is, I just want to see the team compete.

Even Baz's usual rock solid defence of him is starting to look a bit shaky.

I really doubt we’ll beat the Eels. Pretty sure when we’ve been out of finals contention, we haven’t won the final game of the season since we beat the Tigers back in 2007 to avoid the spoon.

As a club, for almost 20 years, we put the cue in the rack and don’t bother once we can’t make the eight.

Last few weeks and our defence completely falling apart have shown that again.
I hope we beat the Eels. My wife is a one eyed Parra supporter. Can’t imagine being beat on the ladder and by them in the last round as well.
6 months of hell coming up.

You’ll have to keep reminding her that it’s only premierships that really count and keep asking her when tho Eels last won one.

That’s quite the miracle you’re asking about there. So far off the planet that I’ve had to have a real think about how to answer.
If they made the 4 by being a good consistent team and not by going on a magic run after another poor start, I’d be singing his praises and admitting I was wrong all these years.
I don’t believe I’ll ever get that chance though. I’ll even go one better. If he does, I’ll be seen publicly buying a box of Great Northern and have a session on it to celebrate without tipping any of it out. Even put a photo on here for proof. That’s how confident I am that we don’t see success with the current coach.
