2025 Season

As much as Robbo has form for whinging about the refs, how did the bunker miss this one? After a controversy-free few weeks, this was a big fail heading into the finals.

I actually thought after the initial grounding the hands fell off the player and then came back on hence tackle not complete and the player kept moving. That was my take anyway.

Been a really good game, great to see an underdog team having a crack.

Flanagan may have turned Tyrell Sloan into an actual first-grade winger.

I bet Ricky Stuart enjoyed that crucial knock on from the "weak gutted dog".

Edit: That's an interesting call, bunker correct in that Lucinao comes back into the ruck, but the first infringement is that Kiraz isn't on his feet so it's a ball plant. Flannagan won't be happy (and rightly so).

Edit 2: And that's an interesting drop out, normally you'd expect a team to go long but the Dragons obviously recognise that with a 2 pt lead they don't want to push Burton on into 2 pt range.

Edit 3: And the Dogs capitalise, expect a post-game blow up from Flannagan.

Might list all the Blocker Roach cliches he comes up with during the Storm v Sea Eagles game for a future drinking game.

"That'll do me" - 100% chance.

Nelson should be sin bined right??? Does that not count as striking?
Elbow to the head. Simpkin goes for a HIA. Now ruled out for the game. Foul play leading to a HIA - surely that’s binnable.

Undoes all the great work from Grant.

Also, these commentators…NAS is asking for a towel to wipe his face - not doing a John Cena - can’t see me.

Storm have had a few of these ill disciplined games that could bite them.

Called it Flanagan, not happy with the bunker and well within his rights to be pissed. They've been ruling "ball plant" if players aren't on their feet all season, but not with the game on the line for the dogs.

I think the bunker gets a hard time when they get the vast majority of calls right, especially when the fans and sometimes even the commentators don't know the rules, but it's the obvious ones that they get wrong that cause the most frustration.

That's two shockers this w/e.

Didn’t catch the game, but saw the replays during the Storm/Manly half time. As you say, obvious ball plant call.
Did Dragons have their challenge/did they challenge?

If bunker ruled on that, that’s poor consistency.

Would be a fun twist to allow teams to challenge more, but lose an interchange if incorrect. Still give them one for free. But we frequently see teams that lose their challenge get dudded. The opposition immediately start trying to strip the ball in tackles, knock on calls go against them and there’s nothing they can do.

I’m still a bit curious to see what comes of NAS elbowing Simpkin and concussing him and ruling him out for next weeks game. Manly plan to challenge the category 1 - citing that he stayed down because it hurt. But on the replays you can see he falls over when he gets to his feet. Whether he slips or is concussed, hard to say, but I think it’s the stumble that probably lands him a Cat 1.
The defence will be that he’s trying to do a quick play the ball and push the player off him, he’s got his back to him, can’t see where he’s elbowing. But I don’t think you can just swing your arms and legs around and have no regard for player safety. Kind of like when players start to kick their legs when tackled - if you kick somebody in the head in the process - I think you should pay the price.

Dogs challenged, I'm pretty sure, which adds to the drama of getting the wrong call go their way, shocker of a bunker call when they've been so consistent on this point all season.

I wouldn't object to the second challenge for an interchange, but I think it may lead to teams burning a lot more first challenges, which would be more time-wasting. Additionally, the interchange may ruin a coach's game plan, so perhaps a coach challenge at the cost of an interchange would be a better option.

I think Zac Lomax got a minor charge out of his elbow in Origin, but he didn't cause a Cat 1 HIA, so I'd say Nelson is in more trouble. That said, I've long objected to the NRL being easier on players regarding foul play if the player who was hit gets up and is okay.

Not a fan of Gus (obviously) but this seems like a FoxNRL beat up:

The bigger threat for the Tigers is not the Dogs, who have Tracey, Dykes (and potentially still Taaffe) on the books; it's that Bula is available for 27 and would be the ideal FB for the Perth Bears.
