Just catching up on the DCE posts.
Obviously, I don’t think he’s a candidate for us. Maybe before Brown, it may have been worth a punt for 2 years. But then he retires…and then what…
Think DCE is such an innovative and creative player. He does some high risk, high reward things and it generally lands on the reward side.
I was listening to something around the Immortal debate last year, and how they think candidates should have changed the way the game is played. I don’t think he is an immortal, but his craftiness and ability to think outside the square is a level above. Cleary is great at executing kicks and set plays (albeit things he has devised). But I think DCE pips him for creativity.
He has a pretty good record of 40/20s, has at least one 20/40 to his name, quick drop outs, short drop outs before they were popularised, kicking early in tackle count for Saab. Unfortunately for him, existed at a time with Thurston, Lockyer and Cronk taking many of the halves jerseys for Queensland.
I think he’d be a good halves coach, a good person to pick the brains of and add a few tricks to a halfbacks game. Would have been a good experience for Sharpe if we are developing him into a 6/7.
