I wholeheartedly agree, but you have to remember thst we're The Newcastle Knights. It would be money well spent.
It’s a very low bar for an extra year four years in the future, isn’t it … I’d have said if you make the top four this year, considering how we did last year, sure, add on 2027.12th is such a typical standard for the Knights to set.
We finish 5th in 2023, but 12th is the bench mark the following year.
Everyone Is still hungover from last years run and you can't really blame us.I don’t really understand what people’s expectations are for the season when our play from our halfback has been so poor, our five eighth missed half the season and our 1.4m dollar player missed a large chunk too. Even on the weekend if Gamble doesn’t break, his our on field general at the moment we’re probably more likely to kick a field goal.
Do people think that with the same circumstances John Morris would have us in better shape?
"is beyond beggars belief"Everyone Is still hungover from last years run and you can't really blame us.
Even through those circumstances you mentiomed, how we've managed to get to this low point from last year is beyond beggars belief.
Have a look at the rosters though. He got those finishes with his best player injured most of the time & with teams where about half of the roster had been playing for the Newtown Jets before he got there.Morris seems like a lateral move. Coached for 3 years for a 7th and 8th placed finishes and didn’t make it to the end of the 3rd with a losing record overall. Doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Coaches aren’t miracle workers. You can only judge them on performance relative to the players they have available. Seven time premiership winning coach Wayne Bennett has the Dolphins on the fringe of the 8. Sounds meh in a vacuum until you dig into the specifics.
Anything other than one out runs and non contested ends to sets is an improvement.Who was their best player?
Looking at their squad from 19 and 20 and it’s alright nothing special but a bottom of the 8 finish looks about par for the squads.
Not saying he can’t coach but I can’t see why people would expect a big improvement under him?
Its a fair case to make this year that injuries defitely struck a chord this year in ending our season and finishing 9th-12th wasn't terrible, plus the growth of teams like Dogs and Dragons who have had very little injury interruptions through the year.I don’t really understand what people’s expectations are for the season when our play from our halfback has been so poor, our five eighth missed half the season and our 1.4m dollar player missed a large chunk too. We play Souths away, then play the Titans and Dolphins at home.Apparently OB has a clause in his contract he has to finish above 13th or can be terminated.
With the rabbits home, then 2 away games in qld its still possible.
But I have to say, a clause that the coach has to finish 12th or above is peak Knights mediocrity.
Completely agree that we missed the jump, but I’ve got a feeling they weren’t prepared for Hastings drop off. He looked completely off the pace and a shadow of himself from the season before. Its a fair case to make this year that injuries defitely struck a chord this year in ending our season and finishing 9th-12th wasn't terrible, plus the growth of teams like Dogs and Dragons who have had very little injury interruptions through the year.
Form of our spine not being great had absolutely had its affect as well.
If we had a good run with injuries like last year then we may have had a better year and be fighting it out for 6th-8th.
The start of the year is my biggest concern, coming off a strong season and starting the way we did, with player forgetting the 1%'s that win you games and get the likes of KP in the position he needs. We kind of rectified that in the middle of the year, had some good wins, then we relaxed again.
That needs to be fixed next season and they need to start well and in unison. a whole season and preseason with KPP to link up that edge or Lucas.
Even if we bring in a new half it all needs to be sorted before Xmas. Players need to have a hard off season and remember to win they need to compete at a very high standard all season.
Bulldogs and Sea Eagles finished 12th or lower last year but are currently in top 8. Cowboys 11th last year too. I'm sure they're quite pleased they didn't sack their coaches based on last year's result.
The clause is finishing 12th or above triggers the last two years of his contract. Below that, he is still contracted for next year. If it came to a payout, he'd be getting one year's pay, not three.Apparently OB has a clause in his contract he has to finish above 13th or can be terminated.

Shaun Johnson IMO.Who was their best player?
