If Samoa perform like they should on paper, they'll beat Tonga in a close game and come up against England in a semi.
It could be one of the biggest turnarounds in sporting history if Samoa can overcome England in the semi after going down to them by a massive score in round one.
On paper, the two squads look well matched. It isn't impossible.
But if they'd won they would have played PNG in the quarter like England did last week, then England again in the semi. It was a very weird draw in that the two sides from the same pool ended up meeting in the semi. But England got the advantage of not facing Tonga in the quarter from wining their pool.I didn't really expect it, but it was always a possibility.
You have to at least ask the question if Samoa looked at the draw and decided their best path to top 4 was to lose to England in round 1 and play Tonga in the quarters, so didn't really try too hard in round 1.
Almost every game has been easily predictable up till this one today.
There's been plenty of Samoan & Tongan flags flying on cars over here in Newcastle too. I love the passion & also their collective refreshing brand of entertainment. Will be interesting to see how Samoa go, I can see a bit of a blowout win to Aus, but that semi might have also taken a bit out of them. Who knows, but I wouldn't be putting money on Samoa.
How huge would it be if they did win though, I've seen so many cars with Samoan flags flying out the window in Wellington this week, I'm sure that's only going to increase in the coming week!![]()

Samoa need everything to go their way, that's a bad start for them with a dreadful call from the touch judge. Should have been a 40-20 to Samoa.
Not sure how he managed to miss a foot on the touch line and then the ball itself hitting the touch line. That was a horrible call, they needed that start
