Who should be number 7 for next season?

Yeah and he wasn’t Cooper Cronk out there as the chief playmaker to be sure, he needs to work on it (he comes up with some wrong options with his kicking game and has the odd hospital pass in him still). But if you like you can go watch him play in the reserve grade finals in 2019 and at back then he looked very much like one of those halves who’s a career reserve grader, mostly plays footy for a bit of fun, very off the cuff and cursing by on that natural pace and skill he has, couldn’t tackle for ****. 2-3 years later he has looked like he’s developing into a genuine first grade half (defence still needs work). It’s either a huge compliment to Cronulla as a development club or his work ethic, possibly both.
If he has improved so much in the past 2/3 years, i'd say its his commitment and work ethic first, then the Sharks development 2nd. To me its a good sign he has improved so rapidly and will only get better with more first grade experience

You can have the best development coaches and pathways, but if the player wont put the effort in, its pointless and they wont improve. Its like Nick Kyrgios, all the talent in the world, but never applies himself, well not until Wimbledon this year

Definitely had him pegged wrong as a “guy who’s out there for fun” type when I saw him playing for the Jets a few years back judging by this.
I actually love the fact he looks to play like his having fun, says a lot about his playing style and that he continues to do it even though I'm sure the "coaches" are trying to get into structures. Your mad if you don't play off the cuff footy these days. I certainly wouldn't mind him at Newcastle.

I took a lot of notice of him last year when the sharks signed Hynes a s a half. I wasn't sold on that idea, then I'm looking at this kid and really wondered why they went that way. In Hynesight, fitzgibbon knew what he was doing. But this kid can lead a team around. Genuinely get them around the park at a young age. Some polish isn't there yet with the money ball and last tackle kicks being perfect, but that will come. His ball running is a threat and passing and kicking are good for a play maker in his early 20s. And he kicks goals.

The sharks could have imploded the back end of last year. John Morris had done a great job bringing a stack of kids through, now he was being moved on for someone to take his team to the next level. The halfback had a replacement lined up. Instead they saw the year out well, and Trindall showed real composure in their tightest games. He won me over as a playmaker of the future.

It doesn't sound like the knights see him as an option, but to me he is a first grade ready playmaker with a guy in front of him who is going no where. That is why I'd see him as an option.

I’ve not heard anything either way on this front incidentally. I don’t think his name gets brought up much. No one’s asking Baz Toohey about him.

I agree 100% with everything else you’ve said. His negatives are things you’d expect to improve and which were way worse a few years ago - on top of the odd bad option with the boot or passing to a guy in traffic, he was a speed bump defensively, he’s gotten better on that end too.

He genuinely has vision though, like he has that knack a lot of halfbacks do for spotting a buggered prop marking up on the short side - he’ll overcall for the ball with shape outside him and take him on one on one, invariably breaking the line himself or putting one of his outside men through a hole. Something you should see Luke Brooks doing a bunch of times every season but 9 years into his career he’s never been able to balance steering a team around & executing structure with playing eyes up and breaking out of the structure when it’s on.

Definitely wasn’t as heralded coming through as guys like Brooks and Clifford, but if there’s any guy stuck behind established halves who’s gonna go on to have a successful 200 game+ career as a first grade half a la James Maloney, it’s him.

The thing Parr signalled on Toohey’s pod is that the club isn’t gonna muck around with trying to induce players to break contract cos there’s too many moving parts - off contract players or guys given permission to negotiate only, hence signing Gamble. If Trindall is told that 6 jersey is Moylan’s for the next two years and asks to have a look around, we’d be stupid not to snap him up IMO.

I thought the sharks would start with him at seven this year and Hynes at 6

So did I mate. Moylan has unexpectedly evolved into that old experienced head a rookie halfback like Hynes would need to succeed as much as he has. Moylan and Brailey steer them around, Nicho only has to think about getting his kicks right and hunting for points.

I think it was gonna be Moylan either way but he definitely did go bad in the trials.

More interested in his performance in real games though which has been very promising.

Stupid of the club not to consider on contract guys that are stuck behind established first graders. Or hell, on contract guys that might be looking for a release.

You would think though, if a player wants out, he just gives his manager the word and the manager discreetly puts out the feelers. There aren't too many players that want out and are told no. Who wants a player at the club that doesn't want to be there!

Funnily enough, the Tigers.
Tigers are just playing hard ball, they know how desperate we are for a halfback, so they are just trying to get us to pay more for Brooks. It helps them out with their salary cap the more we pay as well.

Smart play on their part. I'm just hoping we don't fall for it as i think the Tigers would be almost as desperate to offload him as we are to sign him
