2022 Season

Hannah appears to confirm here that Jesse will be the starting halfback.
Be interesting to see how well she transitions to seniors, but in Tarsha Gale her playmaking skills looked freakish.
I still think the Southwell sisters in the halves would be interesting. Hannah just plays as a hardrunning lock, but anyone who has played junior soccer for Australia must have a kicking game that's way above par for NRLW. Anyone who has played soccer at any level could dribble a ball into the ingoal, and Jesse had the biggest boot in Tarsha Gale, so you'd think Hannah could kick too.

I know we love our local talents in Newy, but for my money it’s hard to imagine anyone but the incumbent Blues five-eighth Kirra Dibb being named at five-eighth for us.

Hannah did a fair ball playing from lock for Easts and I’m sure she’ll do the same for us. She’s the best defensive player in the NRLW though and that’s why she gets picked there at rep level above some other girls who are bigger metre eaters, so I’m sure that’s where she’ll play for us. She can definitely kick though, she’s a goal kicking option.

With four new franchises coming in, that means 8 new cap-exempt marquee player slots though. Wouldn’t surprise me if a new franchise uses one to poach Dibb. So who knows after this season.

Yeah we have a fair few who could get marquee contracts thrown at them unfortunately. Could see Boyle, Johnston, Upton, Southwell (possibly both) & maybe Dibb all being targets.

Seems crazy to almost double the teams so quickly when squads are already being filled out with athletes from other sports.

At a guess I’d say these are the marquees at each club:

Knights: Millie Boyle and Tamika Upton
Broncos: Ali Brigginshaw and Amber Hall
Roosters: Izzy Kelly and Jess Sergis
Dragons: Kezie Apps and Emma Tonegato
Eels: Simaima Taufa and Tiana Penitani
Titans: Lauren Brown and Brittany Breayley-Nati

Not trying to be rude, but I reckon the top 4 listed teams are making much better use of that rule than the bottom two…

I reckon we’ll keep Boyle and Upton as a priority, the Southwell sisters and Johnston will stay, I identified Dibb as one who’d be hard to keep because she’s already moved clubs a lot and I’ve heard her talk about having the ambition of being a full time pro rugby league player - hard to do on the salary most of these girls get. And yeah because she’s really good. If there’s an offer we can’t match I daresay she’d take it.

I think they’ve flagged that the cap is going to go up, yeah what the rules are beyond that is unknown. Quite right.

Looking foward to seeing this team run out. On paper looks to be a very competitive lineup. I like the womens comp reminds me a lot of older style leauge. Little bit slower and players all look like they are out there playing for their club and not a pay cheque.

Yeah the team we had earlier this year wasn’t very good but you can’t accuse them of not trying or not caring. For a lot of them it’s a big commitment involving taking a lot of time away from their full time jobs, you wouldn’t do it unless you genuinely loved the sport.

Just renewed mine and my daughters membership for the Knights NRLW team...will get down to the 2 home games against the Raiders next week and the Eels game on 4th September....hopefully it will be nice for the crowd to have a Knights team that can perform at home for it's fans and give them something to cheer about.

Might also be good for the men's team to stick around after the Raiders game to see how a Knights team should reward their home fans with a performance worthy of their commitment to the club :newcastle::cheer:

That's awesome that we got Jesse on board. It was taking so long that I thought the club might be keeping her away from the NRLW for another year. But from the minimal highlights that was posted here, she's clearly a level above Tarsha Gale and looks like she'll make an impact at the top level. Can't wait to see this team play.

I think the experience of the Comm games will do wonders for her confidence and fitness at this stage of the season...she certainly already showed a maturity beyond her years at the Tarsha Gale Cup level, so I think she won't be overawed with the step up to NRLW. And anybody that might target her will have to deal with Hannah (and Caitlin Johnson) making sure they get squared up with interest 😉 👍

Hanna Southwell looks like she eats barbells for breakfast and although Jesse is down as a 5/8 Hanna said Jesse will be our halfback .
I think we have the team to smash anyone , although Isabelle Kelly would have been nice to get too she is awesome that girl .

Yeah was wondering how that works for season ticket holders. I assume we won't have to buy another ticket for the NRLW game but not sure what the plan will be with seating.

Probably the first time we'll see some fans rocking up towards the end of first grade.

Interesting that all the games are marked as being on free to air TV except 1. Even 1 game marked as 12 noon on a saturday at a ground to be announced is supposed to be on NBN.
