NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS V SOUTH SYDNEY 7.55 PM Fri 8th July - MJS Newcastle

Someone needs to go back in time and tell George Foreman & Mike Tyson’s opponents that you can simply train your head into withstanding knockout blows.
I think a hell of a lot more force was used by both those guys then what was used against Don Young. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Especially Tyson.

Well done Klem for trying to inspire some passion and taking them on in the forwards. Loved the crazy eyes 👀 too. It’s a travesty to be sent off for being too physical in rugby league, No foul play, but sent off and $1000 fine is a joke. And the coach didn’t exactly have your back in the press conference either.
I applaud you , sir, and I would be happy to tip in some money to pay the fine, just so you can do the same every week.

Oooh you’ve hit my berserk button with that one. 😂 When Foreman came out of retirement in his 40’s, Tyson straight up ducked him. Refused to go anywhere near a fight with him. Tyson came up with some very impressive knockouts but he was a little puppy compared to Big George.

Seems a bit rough to accuse Dom of laying down when he wasn’t really hurt. He got clocked in the jaw and I don’t know how many of you that’s happened to but even a glancing blow can shake you up. Do any of you know for sure be did that or do you just reckon?

The independent doctor also often forces players off the field for what looks like fairly innocuous head contact on replay whether they stay down or not anyway so I don’t think it’s such a great point even if he did fake it.
Friz or Barnett got a HIA for copping one to the nuts

Absolutely it is a thing. Slightly different to what the original poster said but very similar.

There you go, I knew it. The slight difference is he did it prior to being named.

A player should not be able to make themselves unavailable unless medically ruled out. Otherwise it opens up the possibility that if players choose, they can bring Origin down and it can hurt that showcase. Not a likely outcome, but players get their noses out of joint could conceivably strike.

The contract states players must make themselves available for rep footy.

Kurt Mann did as well

Yes, it was Kurt Mann. I don't recall the others going off for a HIA for that.

The HIA is a bit of a joke in the NRL. Another sign of NRL incompetence.

You have blokes getting dazed and clearly need holding up by others and nothing done at all. Or other instances where the trainer goes out and gives the thumbs up only for the doc to take them off the field 5 minutes later.

So, the NRL brings in this independent doc in the bunker and I don't know what sort of doc they have in there but players are getting ridiculous category 1 HIA rulings now where they are clearly fine with a minor knock.

I get what the NRL is trying to do, just the execution is typically poor from them. Have an independent Doc at every game, and if a HIA is to be done, the doc can come on and do that HIA on the field. Costs more but far better than some doc sitting at NRL HQ making calls based on video.

Souths in that game did about 6 high shots, only about 3 were penalised. Saf copped a blatant one and jumped straight up I'm sure to avoid the HIA, no penalty given. There were others.

So does this mean rep retirement isn’t a thing now?

No, it absolutely is, and works the same way as the Latrell thing. You announce you are unavailable early and the selectors don't pick you out of respect for that, then the clause never kicks in.

I suspect Latrell came out publicly to say he didn't want to play origin just before Freddy wasn't going to pick him anyway.
If Freddy hadn't been on the phone asking if he was fit and ready to play - he wasn't going to be picked.

We will never know.

Freddy might have jumped on the line and said he was going to name him is he right to go, and Letrell said no, so Freddy said well announce you are pulling out so you don't get ruled out of the Souths game.

I would expect Freddy would have picked him to be in the squad minimum.

Dom Young takes as many hitups as anyone in the team and he consistently gets a belting for his trouble. I have never seen him take a dive trying to milk a penalty. The rule should be changed to include the offending player. If seems crazy to me that the player who has been injured in an illegal tackle has to leave the field for 15mins and the offending player stays on the field, he should be off for 15mins as well. Puting him on report doesn't help the team he has committed the offense on.

That make's too much sense and evens out a contest where a player has to leave the field due to foul play....so in saying that the NRL will never introduce such a rule because they only bring in rules that create controversy :)

That's all on the coach.
What's his obsession with Mann?
He is barely good enough to be in the team when fit, why does he have to play injured?
That's the million dollar question.. they should can the press conference and make the coaches answer fan questions from socials.
