If O'Brien can maintain or even improve our defence this year, you're right - we shouldn't be dropping into the realms of the bottom 4...acknowledging other's points about the impact key injuries could likely have on our performance if we have our usual run of luck on that front.
Outside of losing Brailey though, if we can maintain some stability in keeping a regular spine together 90% of the time, I think our attack will improve on last year...which wouldn't be hard, I know
- I expect Joey's influence will be pivotal here.So if that happens and our forwards can dominate the way they should against the bottom 8 contenders, then we can be a side capable of grinding out the ugly wins you need to put yourself in the frame for a top 8 finish again.
What we need to step up from is the losses to sides like Wests and the Dragons, particularly on our home turf...a new motivation would have to be that I'd hate to be a player around Joey at the end of the game if they dish up the same performances this year

.Like my follow up post, once you pointed it out though...from my experience, the way Fox generally report and present the Knights as a 'lesser' team than other teams is a common thread.
I even pick it up in the subtlety of the advertising - whenever I see NRL and/or a Fox promo adverts, the footage either invariably includes the Knights as the team getting scored against and/or doesn't include them at all on occasion?! It is traditionally the same 'favoured' teams who make the promo reel. I also note that it is also usually disproportionate compared to other teams in the official adverts, including those teams we finished above the ladder on.
As a supporter, it's the subtle stuff that I see the patterns in that does tend to p!$$ me off a bit on occasion

I agree and think he can cover the number of tackles Mozza but he won't be able to consistently give the quality of dummy half service, do the 1%ers in kick chase and defensive effort on effort scramble that Brailey brings....it's not a criticism, just an acknowledgement of why Brailey is our first string hooker and was given the captaincy

At the end of the day the Knights are a one city club which gets more bums on seats at home games than any club bar Brisbane, even when they shaft us in the schedule by giving us the Friday 6pm game more than any other club… they don’t need to do us any favours to keep us invested.
They talk up the Titans so much because the club’s not that far from folding if they don’t have some success.

It’s a very interesting season in the fact that there is little expectation for us, at least externally. I don’t think this is such a bad thing.
I also think the loss of Pearce isn’t really that big of a deal and was overrated.
We have a forward pack that can match, money to spend for any opportunity that a player becomes available and Ponga who if can have a dominant season will definitely keep us finals bound. Interesting season coming up

Those are the facts. You're not wrong.
My thinking is, Milford is a Ponga class of talent. When he first hit grade he played like a generational talent almost every game and did so for 3 or so seasons. Then he put weight on, lost a yard of pace, wasn't as agile, stopped supporting through the middle like he always did. And after Ben Hunt left to Saints, the Broncs then moved Milford to 7, which for mine was the nail in the coffin for any hope of seeing his best footy. He got lazy from there.
Where he is today resembles the conditions of his early career where his back was against the wall, with only opportunity infront of him. Call ne naive but I genuinely expect him to fire for at least a season or two if things play out well for him.
Clifford to 7 isn't ideal imo, he is more of a 5/8th, but he'll make a decent 7.

Was Milford much of a ballplayer? I know back at Canberra he had a crazy step and agility. Ponga has that too, but I think what sets him above the rest as what you would call a generational talent, is his ball playing ability.

If i remember rightly Randall was everywhere when he played, he backed up well his distribution was good and he made a tackle a minute for the 70 min he played on his debut. Personally imo we wont lose much if anything with Randall at 9 and its not like Brailey is a big rep player for us , really we have not seen a whole lot of Brailey .
If Randall plays half the season and does well he will already be better value for money than Brailey . Some people talk as if Randall is a huge step down from Brailey , me im not so sure and don't forget none of us have seen how Brailey will go for a full season as yet or even half a season .

If you want to call ponga a "generational talent" not sure what you would call turbo, Tedesco, pappenhuzen, etc?
