I here what your saying but sunny coast is like 1 hr away it's not like they are leaving Newcastle. Travel should not be a excuse at all.
My primary school teacher spent hours trying to explain the difference between "excuse" and "reason" to all of us 10 year olds.
I have to say, most people on this site didn't have Mr Sherman in 4th grade, and it shows.

reason = circumstances beyond your control that adversely effect you
excuse = circumstances within your control you allow to adversely effect you

It took your teacher “hours” to explain the difference between those two concepts?

Albert Kelly is one of the few guys I can remember getting sacked mid season by the Knights for disciplinary reasons.
Mind you, if he goes good against sides who have sacked him, he should have a lot of good games, because he's been sacked a lot.

So i f we end up losing the game you will be happy if O'Brien comes out and says the reason we lost the game was because we had to sit on the bus for a hour. I normally find your posts insightful but your clutching at straws with this one.

Totally unrelated to the game, but does anyone remember how bad Kingy used to be? I just couldn't understand how he stuck around for so long, but the last 2 seasons he has totally won me over. Love his effort and I'm perfectly happy having him on the bench for us these days. Would rather an upgrade of course, but Kingy can hold his own.

Excited for Chris Randall too. I have liked him from what I've seen of him.
It has to be remembered that prior to 2 years ago(or it might have been a year earlier), Josh was a part time footballer who was also completing a fulltime apprenticeship with a local mining company from memory whilst training part time with the NRL and reggies squad - there was obviously a good sense of his potential back then (under Brownie) when the Knights coaching staff allowed him to do that.

If he keeps going on his current development, I think he will be putting himself ahead of Fitz and Barnett by the time next season rolls around😉

If we lose the game I expect him to take responsibility for everything that was in his control, and not take responsibility for things beyond his control - like 4 day turnarounds and losing whatever home ground advantage we had.
I find he's very good at admitting when he could have done better, and also good at identifying things beyond his control.
He makes no excuses.
He identifies reasons things happen, and hopefully tries to fix them if he can.
This is exactly what I want to see from a coach, and what I like to see from any good person for that matter.

I agree with what you have written i just don't think it is that much of a advantage for the bronco's in this current situation. The 4 day turn around it remains to be seen how it will effect us it was not a overly hard slog against the raiders so I think we should be good.

And here's probably where I disagree with your definitions. A reason and an excuse can depend on your point of view. Obi won't be using the four day turn around and losing home ground advantage as an excuse for a poor performance. This time round, it sounds like they have left no stone unturned to get the players as comfortable as possible. But this playing group is not good at handling a bit of adversity. It is like once things go slightly askew leading up to a game, given an excuse, they usually come out with below par performances. Given the same adversity, the storm or Roosters won't see it as something to use as an excuse, they will adapt and be ready to go at game time. The very best example I can give you is the Roosters injury toll this year. It may well be the "reason" they don't get to a gf this year, but it has never been an "excuse" for them to put in bad performances. By and large they have maintained a very high standard and when they have dropped a game, their standards have been right back high again the next match. Obi not using excuses has been duly noted and is a great starting point in getting some resilience in the playing group. It doesn't matter what happens throughout the week, once you are on the paddock, do your job.

It's the natural maturing process too. With as many games as he's played now, the confidence & comfort to play your own game at NRL level wouldn't be a struggle anymore. Just like anything, the more you do it, the more comfortable you are. It's probably an unpopular thought, but I believe most players that make it to NRL level have the potential to do this, apart from obviously guys that just can't get the mental/preparation/off field side right. The NRL is getting pretty cut throat now though, many guys under the 50/40/30 game mark I feel fall away from the game because of the nature of the business. A national reserve grade might help out.

Brownie used King for his defence mostly.
King has been playing 60 minutes, running 120 metres and making 30+ tackles for years in reserve grade, but in firstgrade he played short minutes, only had a run if no one else was in position, and tried to make as many tackles as possible and as strong as possible.
At the time we had decent starting props but lost the middle when the benchies went on, so King's job was to try to keep the opposition middles under control by tackling them as hard as he could.
He has got a lot fitter under O'Brien, but a good part of why he looks better in attack is because he is allowed to play a more traditional role now.

Kingy is a legend. He copped so much criticism early on which was a shame because he is a genuinely good guy. Was a tough few years for most knights players, let alone your introduction to grade as a forward.

Albert Kelly has replaced the number 17 on the bench.
I don't know what positions all the Brisbane players cover, but I suspect either Kelly or one of their halves will give Levi a break because they have been using Levi for impact and wouldn't want him to save his energy so he can last 80. Just a guess.

There was a press conference he did during the Browny years where he said his running game was something he was trying to work hard on for that consistency. His running metres were terrible at that point & it was obviously something that had been pointed out to him so I wouldn't say it was necessarily a tactic for him to just concentrate on defence. Like I said, confidence & comfort would play a part, the more they feel like a first-grader, some guys just need time to put both sides of the game together.

Albert Kelly coming into the 17 for Donkies apparently.
Maybe Croft to get dropped?
Nah Kevvy loves the threat of the hook will be a bit concerned if he starts though they would be much more dangerous, still filthy we never gave Kelly a shot in firsts kids a gun. Sadly a dropkick off the field.

Jack Johns and Starford To'a come out of the side this week, leaving Phoenix Crossland and Lachlan Fitzgibbon on the extended bench.
