They’re filthy because Gardiner won’t talk to them.
Hooper is a joke. A casual fan with a passing interest in Rugby League knows more about the game than he does.
 
Hooper might be a joke but somewhere amongst it all is some if not all the truth and disregarding what he says because you don’t like what he does is burying head in sand.
The problem for all this seems to stem from Gardener getting the coaching looked into and planning to let Brown go and he heard something, discussions ensued and Brown is then leaving. Nothing wrong with it but to much behind the back stuff and lack of consultation with others. The other problem was that it all came about with a few rounds left and just before a critical game when it all blew up, had been going on for a while but was a long fuse. Brown questioning Gardener appears to have brought it out and now Gardener is digging himself into a hole with denials.
Players siding with or against coach most likely after rumours of coach leaving started circulating.
All of above does not give the players an excuse to play like they did against Tigers.
 
Gardener was perfectly right to have a coaching review in time to either re-appoint Brown or get someone new before the new pre season starts - and well before so the new guy can get his plans in order.
Brown walked because he knew he wouldn't come out of the review with a job.
The only thing I think Gardener has done "wrong" is trying to keep Brown's reputation intact.
If he'd have just said Brown is terrible and we want a better coach, all the haters would have nothing to quibble about, but with Gardener refusing to say a bad word about Brown, he is being portrayed as Saint Nathan of the perpetual wooden spoon and the Knights are unfairly dealing with him.

Hoopers always been a joke remember him and Rebecca Wilson being on the Mannah's door step the days after Jon Mannah passed away and asking if they thought peptide's caused it, guy has no soul.

And yep Sydney media - including radio having non stop pot shots at the club. Hope Gardiner has their numbers on block and leaves it there, anyone with half a brain could see they are making up stuff worse than womans weekly do about the royals.
 
What I don't get with all the speculation regarding assessing potential replacements for Brown is as follows.
Brown was on a performance based contract. Indisputable fact.
Therefore the contract can end at the end of any given year once the performance review has been completed. Indisputable fact.
A CEO or person in a similar role would be negligent in their duties if they did not undertake a review of potential replacements leading into the performance review should the result be unfavourable for the current employee. Indisputable fact.
A person cannot be unsuitable moving forward unless there is a better replacement which has to be assessed by reviewing all possible replacements prior to finalising the performance review of the current employee. Indisputable fact.
The knights should be congratulated for carrying out due diligence and not making on the fly decisions regarding one of the most important roles in the organisation.

Going by your logic how can they assess O'Brien as being better than Brown then?

Brown hasn't set the World on fire but having over a decade as head coach in the two elite competitions in the World even if the results aren't great has to come up better than being an assistant in various age groups & grades for a decade, on any spreadsheet.

It has been made abundantly clear that the team has underperformed with Brown as coach this year.

You've missed my point.

I noted that Brown hasn't been successful. The statement I was replying to suggested that the Knights would do a performance review then decide on a replacement if a better replacement could be found after reviewing all possible replacements. My point being that going by this logic someone with zero head coaching experience at any level could not possibly finish above someone who had been a head coach for over a decade, regardless of how poor their results had been in that decade.

We will not know for sure until this time next season.

When everything we hear about is very positive, it sounds like it will be a good move.

Far from it. You will weight known negatives higher than potential negatives in any risk analysis. I would imagine if you look at the analysis it would be a function of too many negative risks that did him in.

I think he copped that on the chin because he didn’t want to be seen as the guy who wasn’t giving Brown a fair go after what he went through with the team before Wests took over.
Now that Gardner has shown he can run an nrl club and turn it in to a profit (much to the Sydney media’s disgust) we can see how Wests go handling the footballing operations side of things with their coaching appointments.

I think they’ll be fine.

I disagree.

Brown has a 50% win strike rate in the two elite RL competitions in the World. O'Brien has a 0% strike rate in any competition that's a bigger risk than a known 50%.

In any case what I am saying is O'Brien isn't the only coach available. If Wests do truly have a spreadsheet with every possible replacement reviewed there is no way O'Brien can be top of the list, I realise many coaches won't be interested in the job but there is no way statistically based on a spreadsheet that O'Brien is the top candidate.

I don't have a problem with O'Brien getting the job, I actually posted on this forum at the start of the season the Knights should consider him as a replacement for Brown. What I don't like is the rubbish that it was all about a spreadsheet review.

There's no way Wests Group would advertise for a Head Chef then give the job to a bloke who only has experience as a kitchen hand so why ******** about all this spreadsheet stuff. If they believe going with a rookie coach like O'Brien is the way forward just come out & tell us & forget about the smoke & mirrors.

You guys are arguing over some apparent spreadsheet that you have no idea what parameters were used in the spreadsheet to come to a conclusion.
 
Article in the herald today says Furner was the first interviewed and O'Brien has also been interviewed, but the club has decided to reach out the Ryles and Ciraldo to see if they want an interview, and says it thinks people have been put off applying because the press have reported it as a done deal.
They went on the say O'Brien and Furner were both very impressive, but the fact that they are reaching out to guys like Ryles, who has already said he isn't interested, means they haven't found a great option yet.

That's it mate, Wests seems they looked not just into first grade coaching games. Seems like they did some calling and research into O'Brien and hearing good things from his Storm and current Roosters clubs.
As a business Wests Group don't need to explain why, they hired a coach now we all have to deal with it.

Yes, how silly of me to suggest that actual coaching ability would be one of the parameters when reviewing coaches.
