Knights possible targets for 2020

Brown set out his agenda from the start, and there would have been constant communication through those first three years. He was never going to be judged on his win/loss ratio during that time. This is the first year he has had a squad that let his game day tactics be judged evenly. He came up short this year, but we owe him a lot for what he was prepared to do over those first three long years.

No team in the history of the game has deliberately got 2 wooden spoons because it's a daft idea, and no fans but Knights fans would put up with that.
If Brown gets another gig, he'll be out n his ear in 6 weeks if he tries the same plan again.

Brown has shown that a rebuild, done properly, takes time. He turned the Dragons around for Bennett, and he's turned the Knights around for the next coach. When he gets another gig, it'll be to fix up a mess, and he has two prime examples to explain why a rebuild will take longer than 6 weeks.

They didn't tank Billy, they just weren't good enough to avoid the spoons. I support the way Brown went about the rebuild, we are in a much better position now than if we had gone for a quick fix.

We are a bit better than the mess Stone was left with, but a bit behind Bennett's squad. Basically it's taken half a decade to get nearly back to an average squad.
Half the teams in the NRL would have their stadiums burnt down by their fans if they served up that crap. The reason every telecast of a Knights game starts with the commentators shaking their heads about how many fans show up is because they can't work out why we do it.

I'm no longer worried about our decent juniors shooting through either

If we land O'Brien as coach, I'd love to see us try and nab Brodie Croft. He and Pearce could be lethal in the halves. O'Brien and Croft obviously have their time at Storm together so it could be a good fit.
I just want to revisit this. Croft is seemingly on the outer at Melbourne again with the finals just around the corner, just like last year. O'Brien will know better than anyone what his shortcomings are. I'm just wondering out loud if this might be a good idea? Now would be the time.

He has spent most of this year working with several good halves in the Roosters reserves.
Lauclan Lam would be a very good running 5/8 with some actual playmaking skills.
Don't know if he is available.
That big, blond 5/8 they have who can play in the forwards as well would be a good fit for us too - a good defender who can score tries and has a few playmaking skills - a better version of Sean Rudder.

I imagine it's his defence. His attack is sharp but he lets a lot of tries in down his side. Melbourne have great depth with Munster, Hughes, Papenhuyzen and so on. For other teams, he might still be in first grade despite his defensive shortcomings.

Gotta admire their cut throat approach to keeping standards. A young, well rated halfback like him would probably keep his spot in most teams while his poor defence would be worked around or left to try & get better while in first-grade. But Melbourne have no hesitation in dropping him because they see it as a chink in the armour.

Hutchinson would be a great signing. Big fella for a half, 187cms and 97kg. Has played this year seven games as 5/8, four as back rower and four as halfback.

Maybe im alone here but I think that with a pre season with the new coach Lino will improve even more . Imo he already has all the skills and his defence has improved .
A bit more practice experience and confidence will do him the world of good , I still think he could be our long term 5/8.
IF im right and the new coach thinks the same then he should keep Lino at 5/8 and spend the money on a Big bad experienced prop if Gavet leaves, if he stays then a top line back rower .
Just my opinion but I would think about giving Jacob a shot at backrow beside Fitzy , Jacob is a bit more mobile than Daniel. As I have said before imo on his best day Jacob is at least as good as Daniel , im sure I remember him playing b/row before . Hey its worth a try it adds to the size of the pack IF he goes good there .

I wouldn't say 6-8 rep players is an average squad, it's easily top 6 squad and top 4 if our guns fire.

Your not Lino has the potential to be a decent number 6.

I just had a look at Lino's stats 17 games for the Warriors and 10 for us the guy is still a rookie really but he is going ok as a rookie his average points scored per game is 3.95 where as Mitchel Pearce's average from 2007 to 2018 1.06 points per game although Pearce has played 10 times as many games ..

Wouldn’t use those stats . Lino is a Goal kicker . Pearce isn’t

Would like to see Lino stay as 5/8th next season he probably had his best game last week interesting to see if he backs that up on Sunday.
Also as for next year I would like to see SKD move to centre, he played there for the Roosters and was decent from what I remember.
Leaving Hunt and Lee on the wing, then SKD and Best in the centres. We can then use Sione from the bench which he was good at in our winning streak.

Why should we have SKD at centre and Hunt on wing when SKD’s a better winger and Hunt’s a better centre?

1. Ponga
2. Lee
3. Hunt
4. Best
5. SKD
