Nathan Brown

The problem is it's not really just an extra half a year, if the start of next year didn't work out, the whole year is a wash. The chances of getting a coach mid season is a lot harder so we end up with an interim coach for the remainder of the year.

Another year is down the drain and closer to the end of the Pearce, Ponga and Klemmer contracts who may not want to resign with poor results and instability around the club.

Yeah I thought the same. It is enough time while Ponga is contracted for the coach to put his stamp on the team. This is probably one of the biggest decisions the Wests Group has to make on the footballing side so they want to give the coach enough time to have an impact and be given an opportunity to mould the team.
Interesting times ahead for the team.

Des is nothing of that

Imo Des is the closest to Bellamy we will find.
Builds a club from 16s up and wants a team that is all for each other.

Heck his been a NRL coach for 400+ games and only coached 2 sides.
Manly 9yrs
Dogs 7yrs
Add that his won GFs, taken both clubs to GFs, and never missed a finals series as a coach.

What a dud option.
Look at the state he left the Bulldogs in? No thanks.

We need a coach that is good at developing, debuting and retaing juniors. Even players like Sione, Barnett, Fitz, Watson and Ponga would benifit from further development/coaching.

Des would be the perfect coach for our current position.
You don't often get in a spot where you can challenge for a title, and Des only knows one way to go, and that's to throw everything at winning a title.
I'd put $100 on us winning the title next year if they signed Des. We probably wouldn't, but the odds would be good.

Do you really think that salary cap issue was all on Des?? A club with a history of blowing the cap to win comps and it was all Des Hasler in that instance.
Seems plausible.
A coach with a history of giving out huge back ended contracts. I’d say he had a fair bit to do with it. Mbye on 800k a year., Eastwood on over half a million.

Des's winning results speak for themselves. Can't see him leaving Manly though. They have their identity back this year I think. The best available would be O'Brien IMO.

Manly were left reeling for a few years due to back ended contracts when he left the first time too. He might get some good results here and there is no doubt he can coach but we'd probably have to do another rebuild once hes gone.

Des was one of the selfish coaches Brown was referring to in his presser

Wayne Bennett said you never know which Newcastle was going to get off the bus. Brown obviously had no idea also. Note to new coach. Make sure the right team gets off the bus every week.

Great a new coach and another rebuild ...Ponga and Pearce both said they came here because of Brown so don't be surprised if they are both gone real soon ...

The Broncos landed TPJ, Lodge, Bird and other recruits presumably to play for Bennett. Now that Bennett has gone, a few have left, but plenty have stayed. If we are able to secure a good coach who the players have faith in and who can take them to the next stage, then I imagine key players like Ponga and Pearce will be happy to stick around.
