Knights release Jesse Ramien

I respectfully disagree. Ponga is as safe as houses under the high ball, reads the defense extremely well, can attack from anywhere and sets up plenty of tries. Nobody has a better step than him.

The others are all classy players and deserve their accolades, but I reckon the majority of clubs would choose to sign Ponga over any of the others if all were available.

Ponga would be playing on the wing if he signed at the Roosters, Warriors and possibly the Raiders. He'd only play fullback at Manly because Turbo is just as good in the centres.

That's the crux of my many issues.

Have a look at the Tigers side last night. Bunch of nobodies plus a few geriatrics on their last legs. Pretty well coached though.

Easy to look like a well coached side when everything goes your way including ref calls, cowboys were dudded 2 tries in the first half alone.

Club released a Brown statement surrounding the release of Ramien.

Brown says there was no run in, no confrontation between the playing group or him with Ramien. His wording was interesting where he says "I made a decision that Jesse wasn't working out".

Obviously the club are going to play down any blow ups so take it with a grain of salt of course. Ramien is contracted to the club still so would be restricted from making comment you would think.

Hard to imagine a club getting to a point where they are that fed up with a player, that they tell them don't come back, yet they are still contracted to the club, and just being paid to stay away. That does not sound amicable to me!

I can't recall another player that this has happened with. Contract torn up sure, told to negotiate with others sure, but told to go and stay away from the club entirely, whilst still being paid?

And, we still have Ramien contracted for next season, so any club looking to pick him up is going to be expecting the Knights to pay some freight, as they know Ramien can kick back for a year and collect 250k for free. They know we are desperate to offload him.

He might not be getting paid while he's not playing though. Suppose it depends on whatever has been agreed.

It all goes together.
We only have 1 genuine playmaker, and that's the way the coach has put the team together.
If Pearce fires, it all works.
If Pearce doesn't fire, it all goes to ****.
That's how the team built by Brown works.

So every time a player is out of form it’s the coach’s fault?

No.
If we rely on 1 player being in form, that's the coach's fault.

I agree with this. Although, it's fair to assume that when that player is being paid $1 million a season, the difference between a good and bad game for them should be minimal. Don't see too many games won where the halfback (or at least one of the halves) is playing well, so not surprising that our overall form dips when Pearce's does.

I agree with Billy on this one.
Every player has an off day or off moments in a game. We need a 5/8 capable of covering for Pearce (ie: steer team around or 5th tackle options) when Pearce is having the off moment or game.

Most teams struggle when they lose their most important player.

I do think we need a better option at 5/8 to minimise this problem for us. It’s obvious Brown knows this too but that doesn’t just happen by clicking your fingers.

Tedesco, RTS and Trbojevic are ahead of Ponga at the moment, not by a lot though. But Ponga has higher ceiling than all of them.

He has a better passing game and kicking game than all 3 and he’ll go past them as players over the next couple of years.
