Knights sign Kurt Mann on a 3 year deal

Am I the only one that doesn't want Mann? Sounds like a stupid idea for him to play hooker if you ask me.

You never know, he's a nippy effort kind of player that likes to pop up around the place. Not sure of his defensive capabilities but I wouldn't write him off just because he hasn't played there before. Segeyaro would definitely be the safe option though.

If Mann could cover hooker for 20 or 30 minutes he'd be a brilliant number 14 - he could cover any spine or outside back injury and be useful at hooker for a spell.
It's a big if though. I can't see him being able to defend in the middle.

I'm still pretty surprised at the effort they're throwing at signing Mann. We have enough utilities that can cover the forwards and backs pretty comfortably.

What we really need is a quality hooker to support or supplant Levi. Buhrer was a decent stopgap, Griffen is out of action and may never get back on the field.

Even a specialist fullback would't be the worst decision as cover for Watson or Ponga (depending on their rotation through the year, injuries or rep duties).

They must really see something in Mann, just can't see it myself

Personally I think we're weak at FB/half for depth.

What happens if Pearce is injured? Or Pearce and one of ponga/Watson isn't available.

Absolutely Slots. Ponga has to be short odds to play Origin this year and Pearce's form last year brings him back into consideration.

Take them out of the equation we have Lino as cover and not much else

Widdop to see out this year apparently so won't effect the Mann move

Agree with you fellas on the subjects of lack of depth in spine and not wanting Mann as a 9

Brown said that Mann would come here as a utility not just as a hooker and he can play 9,7,6,5,4,3,2,and 1 so he would do as a bench utility imo and wouldn't be expensive ..

We have many players that can cover 2 to 5 but find it strange that we have left ourselves a bit short on backup with 1, 6 & 7 which are arguably our strongest back positions. As for 9 Levi and Woolford with some back up from Buhrer is ok.

There are still no quotes on the Widdop gossip even though the rumour was broken on Twitter last night, literally no one can provide a quote. So it's interesting people are still believing this story to begin with.
The more accurate mail seems to be Widdop is seeing out 2019 so not sure why we'd worry if that affects them keeping Kurt Mann.

That's probably why Brown is after Mann , a bit more backup.

Mann still in Knights sights despite uncertainty with Widdop.

*Knights officials quietly optimistic a deal will still be done.
*Mann has asked for a release for the Dragons to link with the Knights on a 3 year deal which will see him move into the hooking role.
*Similar to the Klemmer scenario, St George want an outside back replacement before they release him.
*No urgency on Knights end, just a waiting game.
*Pezet says he expects the situation to be sorted in the next week or 2.
