Official: Knights sign David Klemmer for 5 years

Going back to that discussion of why the Knights seem to struggle signing big name recruits because no one wants to uproot their family to Newcastle, based off the piece Baz wrote and it seems like Klemmer is an example of the opposite of that. Someone who has no interest living in Sydney and wants to get away from it all. Then there's being the perfect age at 24 (29 when his deal expires) and the fact his kids look like starting school soon. So his situation gelled well.
Was there any other club who had courted him if hypothetically Newcastle were out of the picture?

Always felt like he was never going to stay at the Bulldogs after last year when he said that footys a business, anyone can be moved on etc.

When I heard and saw him speak this morning he looked really relieved and relaxed that it was all sorted with his move. Let's hope a happy Klemmer means a more in form Klemmer!

I read somewhere Klemmer ran for 185m per game last season and post contact was pushing Tal. Haven't looked in to those stats at all but if that what he brings here it will be a staggering improvement to our pack.

NRL.com has taken his profile down at the moment, but I'm pretty sure I read that he didn't dip below 100m even once all season.

Total footy has him at 166 per game for the season.

Compared to Dsaf, same number of games. Ran for 88m according to Total footy.

If any player can get the safs to their potential it will be Klem. Lead by example on the field and I bet in the gym also. Always said the safs need to trim their frame down a bit to shed the kegs and get more mobile. Hopefully klem who is big but not for want of a better word as fat as the safs can show em what they need to be doing. Diet and exercise wise.

I think a lot of credit should go to Phil Gardner & Wests. It seems like they have taken the Knights and given them some great leadership money and business wise.

Knights have now been giving Brown everything he needs to win, helping to get all the players he wants. I am glad we missed out on a lot of the players being talked about last year, who thought they were too good for our team.

If a disgruntled Klemmer runs for 185m per game and is second for post-contact metres only behind Taumalolo, I’d love to see what a happy Klemmer does!

As long as he can tap into the anger when the whistle blows. You tend to hit harder when you're ****ed off

Would be very nice indeed. I can't see him doing anything else to be honest. Doesn't seem the kind of bloke to slack off at any time.

Hey Josh, I've seen your fave of all time team a few times in your sig and every time I think, yeah, most of those names I get, but Perry? Given some of those names on the list, I would have thought sargent would have got a run in front of Perry?

You can tell I wasn't a fan lol, for mine the guy was a fairly average penalty magnet.

It seemed like Browns/Mooneys vision was to always spend money in 2017-18 and not just sign anyone in comparison to 2016 when Wests weren't on board and we had to sign scrubs and cut deadwood because our cap situation was a disaster and we werent able to spend the full cap because of the debt we had accumulated during 2012-14.
Wests probably thought that through them coming on board was probably good timing, we aren't a total disaster but could use with some help too to take that big step into being a top 8 team.

Gardner is still running a tight ship I imagine but with the corporate backing as mentioned in one of Baz's articles I think it makes his job a little easier too. and signing blokes like Klemmer will only add to that.

Amen! The list is long too: Bird, TPJ, Matt Scott, Foran, Lodge, Wallace... Surely there are plenty of others I've missed. Not disappointed about not signing any of those though.

Klemmer is only a couple of years older and has already proved himself at the highest level. Of the props that knocked us back TPJ was probably the best target, but he's still pretty green and would have been a bit of a gamble at the price we offered. The other targets weren't exactly world-beaters (other than Scott, but not with his ACL).

- Ramien is a way better signing than Bird would have been at a 3rd of the price.
- Pearce vs Foran is a no contest.

never really got to watch much of Sargent. Same with Chief really, but he is chief lol. Didnt start getting into league until around 99 so mainly influenced by the early 200's team and enjoyed watching Josh Perry run around! Same with Matty Parsons

But next year it might be Klemmer 10:cheer:

Tough call. Going to take a hell of a lot to knock Chief off the 10. For me anyhow.

I'm lucky to be old enough to have started following the Knights in 88, was a Souths supporter before that in the days of davidson, boyd, mario, blake etc. Born in newy (guess where lol) I straight swapped to the Knights 100%.
