Official: Knights sign David Klemmer for 5 years

Dogs can scream all they want the NRL won’t be doing anything about it.

Plain as day the Knights have illegally got in his ear same goes for many other players getting out of their contracts early/being talked to before they are legally approachable.

The Dogs will no doubt do the same thing now to find a replacement.

But it’s the NRL and to be expected until someone in HQ says enough is enough.

It doesnt say anything about a medical but still an interesting read.
It talks about how this year Greg Eastwood was on almost double Klemmers salary lol.
He said the medical thing on twitter though.

A member of the Knights high performance team drove to Sydney to meet Klemmer and a sports medical specialist to get medical clearance to join Newcastle.

The Knights have offered the front-row enforcer $4.6 million over four years to quit the Bulldogs.

how exactly are we within our rights to negotiate? maybe he has been released? i know the dogs have a members forum scheduled for tonight or tomorrow night maybe they are withholding the release til after that to avoid a backlash from the members?

It's pretty satisfying to read. Particularly as most Dogs fans were happy to poach Meaney and Cogger but can't accept we're a chance to take the underpaid-Klemmer off their hands.

That said, I empathise with Dogs fans. I hope we're not in the same situation next year or afterwards with Ponga. If he kicks on with form in 2019-2020, he'll be getting paid less than market value as well.
 
Also, worth reading the article Toohey just posted. Apparently, Dogs have formally given Klemmer permission to negotiate and the $4.6 million/4 year supposed offer is off-the-mark. Gardner doesn't say it would be less, but surely it will be.

Ponga will be untouchable as Brown will be smart enough to upgraded he's current deal as he's done with any of our players that are worth keeping.
