Tevita Pangai Jnr

From memory, Ese’ese reportedly signed for $1.4M over 3 years, which equates to $467K per season.

At the time, we probably had to pay overs for his signature (like we did many of our early signings), but I don't expect that to be the case for us moving forward with the team we have now.

Just going off of those numbers but, Pangai Junior should be looking at $400K+ (when you take away having to pay overs). Ese’ese looked better than him off the bench last year and he’s started off strong for us this season, but if Pangai Junior can keep up his current form and build on that (key word being IF), he could be pushing $500K as he’ll have proven himself to be a top notch starting front rower at the raw age of 22.

If you believe what Brent Read on Triple M was saying tonight Pangai will be getting offers in the $700k range.

That’s insane. He flashed some off the bench last year, but really, we're basing this off of two good games starting this season. He’s clearly got a ton of potential and at 22 he can grow into anything, but I need to see more from him. A lot of the time, what separates the average from the good and the good from the great is consistency. What I mean is putting in those types of performances week in, week out – not just a one off here and there which gets people talking because they’ve never seen that from him before. $700K right now is overkill IMO.

What is the basis for Sione's demand for $600,000 based on, rumour or fact?

I would just hate to see him price himself out of the market as I don't think Wests will go anywhere near that price.

Sione is worth maybe 400k but thats the max id offer, TPJ is worth 300 atm but id push it to 400k on potential.
Ese is a better player and has showed to be consistent with a 475k wage so im told.
Id be surprised if dsaf is on more than 400k and jacob more than 300k and imo Jacob is on par with TPJ atm.

We would be in no rush whatsoever to re-sign Sione after his concussion stuff last year. I thought there was already a three year deal that was put off because of the above that was well in the works anyway?

It shouldn't affect our ability to lure pangai or pappali but we probably wouldn't be able to get both

We got the funds to get both if we wanted to.
Though id rather Papa on 450-500k over TPJ for 400k.
Papa on a 4yr 2mil deal would be well worth it, throw in a extra 50k in incentives a yr to hopefully get him on song more often then not.

Mate his a former international with huge potential.

Did i mention his a local junior? And great in the community?

I hear his 3 brothers are future immortals as well lol.

It's a form of gambling. Rolling the dice on talent making their way in to grade and hoping the live up to it, if they do and you get em on a longish deal for that money then your doing ok, but if they tank your stuck and their next deal will be for the 400k mark, likely at a different club.

No different to our buying Ponga, when we signed him people said it was stupid money, now they are saying by the end of his contract he could be a bargain.

NRL salaries are pretty screwed up now. So many young players are getting big money before their time, which in turn leads to all sorts of issues like players thinking they've made it already, not working hard, partying too much & failing to live up to potential. Unfortunately though that's just the price to pay when your salary cap gets bigger & bigger with more money coming into the game. Also a reason why you can't take too much out of market value or squad equality across the competition.

You get paid what your worth depending on market value. Simple as that.

Good on them, it can all end tomorrow in Rugby League as this club very well knows.

Papa will be getting alot more then 500k a year. He would laugh at that offer then never speak to the club again.

Not complaining about how much they get overall. Just stating a fact that with how big the salary cap is, young players get paid before their time now. Not long ago players wouldn't get money until they were proven. Good for them, just it creates players like Moses Suli.
