Official: Chris Heighington signs with the Knights

The way signings are going we could see players like Fitzg, Stone, Yates not get a run in top 17 unless we have a bad run of injuries, Sione could fall into that category too especially if signings continue.
It would be sad to see those local players miss out but we must pick best side week by week.

Hopefully they realize that lillyman etc are only here for 1 or 2 seasons and that they are next in line once they retire.. A season or two in NSW cup won't hurt for Fitz, stone, etc IMO

If we are going so well next year that the guys you mention miss out, so be it. If you want to make an omelette, you're going to have to break some eggs.

Even before all the signings I assumed Yates & Stone would not play much NRL next year anyway. They make for decent depth though, they have some experience now rather than being rookies getting thrown to the wolves when injuries hit.

But it's that sort of entitlement that has lead us down this path of mediocrity. I like Fitz, Stone and Yates etc, and I hope they all play a role in the club, but if we bring in an outsider who is more adept in the role that they play, so be it. And if that hurts the incumbent's feelings and gets them to train harder and work to get that spot back, how is that a bad thing for us as a club? To be honest I'm sick of coming last. I'd rather have a successful side than one that runs last but feels better about itself because it overpays players because they are locals.

Agreed. I don't think we should be overpaying any player to come play for us, regardless if they're local or not.
If you look at Melbourne or even the cowboys to a lesser extent.. they both develop their marquee players, and that's not specific to their juniors either... It includes the players that they bring in...

I've come around to being ok with it. Certainly better then signing a 31 year old Blair for 4 years. Injuries will always be around. And better then having guys who have no business being in First Grade like what Wayne did with guys like Gower and Newton.
I dont expect him to go for more then a year, but I think we could squeeze another year out of Lillyman, big maybe
A lot depends on the younger guys and I hope they can push the older guys out of their spots.

If they aren't the best in our 17 so be it. Fitzy will be in there somewhere and in our best 17 Yates would be lucky to be 18th or 19th man. Stone is still another season off being ready for the toughness of firsts.

My thoughts on Golden boy are well known.

With Heighington announcing his Sharks departure and also that he won’t retire just yet should we look to sign him to a one year deal or would it be a waste? Wouldn’t mind it as he had some pretty solid numbers off the bench this year averaging 93 running metres and 14 tackles.

he has done it in on average 30mins per game.

we would be pretty close to winning reserve grade with:
Meany Starling Hughs Heington stone Johns Soulo Phythian Amey King & all the competition we have in the back row. + extras I've forgotten.

Heighington will be in our top 17 for sure imo.

The likely forward you would think would be 8. Daifiti 9. Griffin 10. Ese'ese 11. Sione 12. Buhrer 13. Guerra 14. Levi 15. Jaifiti 16. Barnett 17. Lillyman, so Brown would have to drop someone unexpected to fit Heighington into a full-strength line-up. Undoubtedly he'd get plenty of games either way though as teams usually only have their full 17 for a couple games a year.

Id love to see Sione shifted back to center. Especially with all his HIAs

1 Ponga
2 Ross
3 Sione
4 Moga
5 SKD
6 Watson
7 Lamb
8 D.Saifiti
9 Levi
10 Lillyman
11 Guerra
12 Buhrer
13 Barnett
14 Griffin
15 J.Saifiti
16 Ese Ese
17 Heighinton
18 fitzgibbon
19 Stone
20 Yates
21 Sio

Think that would be a very solid team and one that definitely should get us towards top 8

Heighinton in top 17 only if injury and then to prop, contest between King and him if second row we have plenty of cover, would need 2-3 injuries. He is still a very good pick up with loads of experience to assist our younger forwards

I guess the Sioni to centre or second row is with us until the season starts, I think if he has a serious enough problem with conclusion to switch to centre he should consider giving the game away, for mine I would want him to stay and play well with no medical repercussions
