2018 NRL salary cap

Been known for a week
I posted this last wednesday...

Rumor is James Graham is 100% on the market now for 2018.

We know we can afford his price, though id hope we get the dogs to cover 300k or so and we get him for 700k in 2018-19.

Big difference between you posting a rumour and his manager confirming it mate...

No offence anything, not saying your unreliable  :giggle:

Who wants woods? ****ing slow as... decent offload but he isnt a player we want or need
SOO player, better than what we have, admittedly not flash but would improve our roster, saying that I don't think we will get him and not fussed either way, the less likely we are to get someone else the better he looks.

NRL and club bosses agree to submit $9.4 million salary cap proposal to RLPA

The NRL has unified rugby league with clubs agreeing to a $9.4 million salary cap for next season.

The NRL’s base salary cap remains at $9.2 million with clubs able to spend an extra $200,000 outside the cap.

Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib said it was a “good outcome for everyone.”

The offer will be taken to the Rugby League Players Association tomorrow.

The $400,000 integrity bonus has been scrapped.

The extra $200,000 is for a veteran or development allowance.

“It’s a good outcome for everyone, we are all going to settle on $9.4. We are very happy with it actually, it’s close to what we wanted,” Dib said.

Dib said the club would “consider” shedding players to remain below the salary cap.

I don't think it is anywhere near what the dogs wanted. But likely if they pushed for a higher amount, 5 clubs could get together who all want it lower and veto their proposal.

This was always going to be the outcome, a slight increase. And with the salary cap remaining at the 9.2m, but an extra 200k can be spent outside the cap, it makes you wonder what the point was as they no doubt could easily spend that through TPA's anyhow.

Ray Dib has no doubt taken a good hold of his ankles in order to get this one over the line.

Its a deadset slap in the face to the clubs who recruited responsibly.

Caving in to the demands of these irresponsible clubs is a bad precedent to set.

Did you really expect anything different with Greenturd in charge?

It's politics. What were the NRL supposed to do? The 5 clubs had them over a barrel.

This was probably about as low an increase as you could get. Still leaves the dogs in strife.

Yep.

Although nobody wants to voluntarily hand over cash, if these teams could negotiate the players to accept a 4% cut each they would get under the $9.6m cap and keep their loaded rosters together.
Even though I can't really afford it I'd still take a small wage cut to keep my mates in a job if it came to it.

Guess it's all about the dollars

9.6? It's 9.2 base, with 200k for a veteran or development allowance.

The $400k was originally going to be included in the cap.

No idea why they don't just make it $9.4m, every team will spend that 200k anyway.

The NRL like to think they are strong, slots, and giving this increase no matter what they call it, they will argue the base is still the $9.2 million they wanted.

Could they? Very congested market with the Swannies, A League teams and BBL teams.

I really think people are overestimating third parties in Sydney to be honest with you, even Brisbane is not fielding the super star teams it once did.

Brisbane and Melbourne both have around 1.5mil of tpa, roosters dogs ect would be around 1mil imo
There was a article on it not to long ago in the tele

Gee for the dogs to have such a average roster, next year its going to be a no thrills backline, they must have flupped up their roster spending good and proper.

Do they even have a 6 & 9 pencilled in for next year.
