Rumour: Knights looking at Maloney

I don't see Cronk coming here, He would work wonders especially with the younger guys but I don't see it happening

But we are going to do everything in our power to get him here!

Brown is giving the BBQ a polish as we speak.

Short of inventing a matter transporter I think he's out of luck.

If Cronk was OK with a 2h+ trip he would have stayed in Melbourne. This smacks of a PR job.

Brown and Mooney are going after the right players, and we have the money to do this.
People shouldn't be getting hot and bothered about if we get them or not.
We have the money - eventually the right person will want it.
The only thing we could do really badly now would be to panic and spend our hard earned cap space on duds just to fill the roster.
If Cronk and Graham don't come, we look for someone better.

Is there a better 7 or 10 in the game?

In an ideal world I love the idea of both Graham and cronk but have a few concerns.
You imagine that cronk would only come for a season which might work in our favour but I highly doubt that he wants to travel up the M1- I see him retiring this yr. And is 1 season really going to make an impact??
Graham is a bigger concern - you give the guy a 2 yr contract for big bucks and hes 33... Hes played over 300 first grade games between here and the UK. A couple of injuries and hes on the sidelines for the most part and then what? Hes essentially doing Tupous job but on bigger bucks. I was super pro Graham first up but the more I think about it the more it worries me.
IMO our first priority should be re-signing Gagai at this point

Gagai is leaving mate.

1. Ponga
2. Ross
3. Elliot
4. Gagai
5. Sio
6. Lamb. Lolohea would be good.
7. Cronk
8. Graham
9. Levi
10. D safiti
11. Sione
12. Buhrer
13. Barnett

yes cronk is getting towards the end of his career, but let's face it. what better half in the game is there that's available ? I think it's good they are throwing the bank book at him, he'll do our halves the world of good.

There is no better half available or not mate ...

No difference between 6 and 7 mate, they just play either side of the ruck these days.

Right so if there is no difference, Why is everyone keen on putting Lamb to 7 and getting a running 6?

There is still a big difference between the 2 numbers, generally a 7 is the man who directs the side around why the 6 feeds off of that and either runs at holes or puts centres/fullbacks/wingers into them.

If we signed Cronk would we put him at 6? Or 7?

Cronulla keen on Will Chambers and Dane Gagai to replace Brisbane-bound Jack Bird

MAROONS strike weapons Dane Gagai and Will Chambers are being targeted by the Sharks as the premiers plot a big-money raid to replace Broncos-bound Jack Bird.

Bird’s departure to Brisbane next season gives Cronulla room to move under the salary cap and the cashed-up Sharks are circling two of Queensland’s finest attacking talents.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Gagai, who has an option in his favour with Newcastle for next season, is seeking in excess of $700,000 a season as he weighs up his future at the embattled Knights.

At 26, Gagai is younger than Chambers, who turns 29 in a fortnight, but his asking price could be problematic in a market where most three-quarters struggle to fetch $500,000.

The Sharks are keen to contact Chambers’ management with a view to tabling a formal offer. The Storm centre has a spicy history with the Sharks, calling Cronulla stalwart Paul Gallen a “drug cheat” during last month’s clash between the clubs at AAMI Park.

But with the Sharks looking to fill the Bird void, Kangaroos ace Chambers shapes as the perfect solution, especially given his experience as a right centre.

Storm football operations chief Frank Ponissi vowed to fight hard to retain Chambers, who has amassed 157 games for the club since his NRL debut in 2007.

“He is definitely part of our plans and we are doing everything we can to keep him,” Ponissi said.

“We don’t want to lose Will, he’s the incumbent Test centre so we’re working hard to make sure he can stay.

“With Cooper (Cronk) leaving, it gives us room in the salary cap but we’re also mindful we need money to replace the guys that are leaving. We are losing Jordan McLean (to the Cowboys) as well and we haven’t replaced him yet.

“There’s a bit of work to do with our squad for next year, but Will is a high priority in our recruitment and retention plans.”

Gagai’s option with Newcastle for next season is worth $600,000. But with the Knights mired in one of the toughest periods in their history, the club is in danger of losing their most talented outside back.

Chambers and Gagai are almost certain to be selected by the Maroons for Origin I, with coach Kevin Walters lauding the Storm centre’s performance in last week’s Anzac Test.

Playing his second Test, Chambers scored a solo try and amassed 114 running metres and four tackle busts in Australia’s 30-12 victory.

“Will was very good in the Test,” Walters said.

“He has played that role for Queensland before on that left side and he’s a big body and he’s fast, he seems to be really on top of his game.

“It’s good news for the Storm and Queensland if Will keeps playing well over the next few weeks.”
