The Newcastle Knights is pleased to announce Josh Starling has joined the Club on a one-year contract.

The 26-year-old prop forward has played 67 first grade matches at the Manly Sea Eagles and the South Sydney Rabbitohs over the last five years.

“Josh is a good competitor, a great trainer and does a lot of wonderful work in the community,” coach Nathan Brown said.

“These are all qualities on and off the field that are important to have around our young squad.”

Starling joins another former Manly player at the Knights in Jamie Buhrer, and is coming off a solid 2016 season in which he played 20 matches.

“It has all happened quickly but it is great to join the Knights,” Starling said.

“There is a lot of hard work ahead. There are no guarantees, so I have to train hard and earn my spot.

“There is a lot of young talent at the Club and that is exciting to be a part of.”

Starling joined pre-season training with the team on Friday morning.

Good signing not a superstar but a solid addition to our squad and with Korbs and the Saifiti boys gives us a solid prop rotation probably the best one we have had in years. If we could snag a fullback than we will have made some real progress in rebuilding our roster.

it's good-good-good-good-goody-good...
well that may be a slight over-exaggeration but not a bad 'un...
might be another Cuthbo...
only time william tell...

It's obvious Brown is looking for, not only decent players, but good roll models / clubmen. Pretty handy pick up.

He's pretty terrible from what I've seen, I've said it before and I'll say it again we're better off keeping Stockwell than we are signing a nuffy like this bloke.

He's not as bad as some of you are making out. He's solid but not a superstar. Nothing else was on offer and nothing better would've probably come onto the market. For one year it's a good pick up. Hell put him at fullback, we all know he can run down Mamo.

Browny getting desperate.

Definitely agree with trying to get the most out of Stockwell rather than shoving him out the door and signing a bloke who hasn't been good in three years.

See I disagree I thought the games I saw him play for manly he actually provided some good go forward

Starling showed good ability under Toohey at the back end of 2015. Was one of the reasons they turned their season around and nearly made the 8.

He is capable but didn't respond under Barrett this year.

Should have just saved the money. Hopefully on the least amount of money as possible.

Manly's issues were their halves and hookers, and the fact they had Nate myles as there top prop.

Starling is a good signing, he comes cheap and with a point to prove.

Also community work is important especially because starling is indigenous the work they do means decides a lot when young indigenous kids are weighing up to join the Knights or not

I'm sure the best indigenous talent will join just because we have NRL star Josh Starling on our books.

I think Stockwell needs to visit more hospitals this offseason.

Mate when you have doran standing beside you im sure you dont wanna be going anywhere near community work. She is a babe! Good signing for depth and itll push our forwards abit harder to earn a spot.
