Official Teams Round 2 - Newcastle Knights vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

But he IS doing everything he can for the win each week he's picking the players that he thinks will eventually get us a win. That's why the Saifiti's are in and why Snowden has been dropped for the second time in 70 od games I think....I would bet my bottom dollar that Brown told the board when going for the job that this is how it would be and they agreed and nothing will cost him his job.
IMO that's how it should be I reckon 2018 top four , this year he will use to see who wants to stay and who doesn't and start getting them to attack and defend as a team .Next year they will hone they're skills and 2018 they will be top 4 and will worry all the other teams.
We cant afford to buy the better players in the comp so brown is buying players that he and I think will be THE better players in a couple of years and we would,nt have to pay overs to get them here . His method will take time instead of cash....B.S.Benny tried to buy a comp because it was worth so much more money to him .... it didn't work . Browns way is so much better and smarter I think ...
My only concern is that the new young players will start getting used to losing. Adopt the losing culture. HOWEVER i think things are going to be different under Brown. Hes picking hungry players and player that want to work hard and win

Another good article on the Saifiti's in the Herald.
It's almost a story you wouldn't believe if you didn't see it happening.
As the article says, if you set about cloning the perfect young player for the future, you'd probably order two like these.
I wonder if they have brothers.
Hell, I think we should sign any sisters they might have.

You have to be really impressed with the way Troy Pezet has got young players ready so quickly over the last few years. He has been a major influence on Sione, Lamb, Cogger etc with our high performance unit - and last year he coached the Saifiti's from trialists for NYC to ready to train with firstgrade. I didn't think he was much good at coaching a team, but his work with individuals is amazing.
I just looked up what he is doing now, and it looks like he is our community development officer on the central coast this year. Hope he finds us a few more.

That bench doesn't work. One middle 3 player, and he's a rookie who wouldn't be good for more than 30 or 40 minutes.

I assume Bhana or Levi will miss out for Snowy.

Bhana actually went on for Smith on Sunday, so they could be subbing him him in at lock.
I think Levi will almost certainly get some time at hooker although Randell played most - if not all - of the game on Sunday.

Did'nt it say when we signed Bhana that he was a lock that played a bit of hooker and that he was a tackling machine ....

Kade Snowden will not play NSW Cup this weekend following his dropping from NRL side

VETERAN Newcastle prop Kade Snowden will be spared the indignity of playing NSW Cup this weekend despite being dumped from the Knights squad to meet South Sydney on Saturday.

With injured props Jack Stockwell and Micky Paea unavailable and impact front-rower Pauli Pauli out suspended, the struggling Snowden was expected to avoid the axe against the Rabbitohs even though he was well below his best in the 30-12 opening round loss to Gold Coast.

He ran for just 28 metres from five hit-ups against the Titans in the limited time he spent on the paddock.

But sticking to his youth policy and his mantra of only picking players whose form warrants selection, Brown still demoted Snowden, naming him as 19th man on an extended bench.

In a sign of respect from the coach and because of his standing within the club, Snowden will travel as an extra to Sydney with the playing group even though he won’t take part in the clash against the Bunnies.

“Snowy definitely won’t be playing but he will still travel with the squad so he won’t be playing NSW Cup either,” Brown said.

“I’ve had a good long chat to him and he is pretty honest Snowy. He is as aware as anyone of where he is at form-wise at the moment and what he needs to do.

“But we probably see it being more of a benefit right now for him to be still around the young blokes and around the team just with his experience.”

In another selection surprise, Brown is sticking with his decision to bring teenage star Sione Mata’utia back through NSW Cup after he missed the opening round through suspension.

“We just think he probably needs a game under his belt before he comes back into the NRL,” Brown said.

“That’s our thinking at this stage anyway but if something was to happen to an outside back between now and game time, we may have to rethink that.”

Brown remains undaunted by the prospect of his young side taking on the Rabbitohs.

“It will be a challenge for us for sure because they are a quality side who really hit the ground running in the opening round last weekend,” he said.

“But it’s the same story. We just need to compete hard and make sure no-one can question our effort out there.

“I’m confident we can improve and continue to improve. That’s what we want to see from all the players — some improvement.”

Knights travel with 20-man squad

Fri 11th March, 01:57PM

Following the Captain's run on Friday afternoon the Newcastle Knights travel to Sydney with 20 men for their Round 2 match against the Rabbitohs.

Young utility forward Bradie Smith has been added to the squad that was named on Tuesday.

Able to play anywhere in the forward pack, 104kg Smith did enough in his reserve grade outing against North Sydney last weekend to be named 20th man.

In other news, joint-captain Jeremy Smith told the media that Danny Levi and Lachlan Fitzgibbon - who will be playing their first NRL games of 2016 - have trained well this week.

"They've trained well all week, so I'm sure they're looking forward to getting out there and getting their 2016 underway," he said following the Captain's Run.

"It's going to be a massive test this weekend, not just for them, but for all of us."

I've said it 3 or 4 times now, but Braidie Smith is almost unrecognisable from last year.
I think I said he was our best forward in the NSW cup game. He is one mean defender.
He'll play firstgrade by the end of the year - probably not ready yet though - although Brown isn't shy about throwing kids in the deep end.

Snowden is already confirmed as not playing and doesn't want to play NSW Cup.
Yeah he's 18th man. I just don't see the point of bringing a 19th man who plays in the forwards when you've already got Snowden, unless there's a couple of players are in doubt

Is anybody concerned about the weather, looking pretty gloomy in Sydney. Bet we will cop a downpour come kick off tomorrow.

It's always the way. We get the craapy playing conditions. If its like that then the boys need to learn how to play in those conditions.

Probably for the experience, which is very feasible as it seems Brown wants to give chances to many rookies throughout the year. Michael Maguire & Trent Robinson have done it a bit over the last few years, naming different rookies on the extended bench each week but not playing them, just getting them closer to the NRL squad & game day process.

Just read an article saying Sione will be playing the first half of a Holden cup match and then be on standby for the NRL team. Apparently he was dropped due to a minor disciplinary breach in the pre-season.

Although he's still eligible that'd be weird as hell to see, especially seeing as though he's already played for Australia and a full season in first grade.

That's pretty much what the article said also regarding he played for Australia and now is in Holden cup.

No I mean he will.not play no matter what. Even if injuries. Bradie Smith will get named before him!
