Wes Naiqama re-signs with Knights for 3 more seasons

Why is everyone so certain of Tahu being in the centres or even being a starter? Based on form over the past 12 months I would put Naiqama ahead of Tahu easily.

If I could put money on Bennett getting the best out of Tahu I would. Look at matt cooper..

The fact is Tahu is a dual international...

& Wes, a player whose best form just gets him into FG

Tahu will start in the centres next year, whether he keeps his spot remains to be seen

me to kajee no way would tahu just jump into 1st grade and wes is doing better than tahu has 4 the last cou[le of yrs

Good news!

Been in fantastic form all season.

I wouldn't mind betting if Wes was a New South Welshman he would go close to claiming a spot in the backline for NSW this year given the injuries!

*Warning: Another one of NF_47s crazy posts*

The same guy who said Gallen wasn't a prop, doesn't play like a prop and would suck for NSW in game 2 at prop.

I dunno...this one seems to have more credit than the Paul Gallen comment. He'd be pushing for a spot (considering Idris is out of favour and Jennings and Hopa are injured and Sticky himself said he had no idea what he was going to do for center). Luckily he's not. And as for Tahu being a dual international...Wes has played for Fiji, so there, eat some credentials! In terms of ability and potential, Tahu has more, but if we're picking on current form then Wes wins hands down.

I'd say Wes will start in the centres next year. Tahu will be just coming off a serious knee injury & will take a while to get back to match fitness & FG standard form. Tahu will be first choice when fit though no doubt.

josh tahu isnt coming off a knee injury it was a pec injury

Oh oops, well he's still out for the season so he couldn't come back straight into FG in form. Made a mistake with the injury but you still get my point.

I think we should definately try to keep Wes in our team...Worth ofloading the likes McDonald and Rojers to other clubs so we can keep as a utility off the bench if not a starting spot in the centres.

Depends how good an off season Tahu has. Tahu will be the first pick centre. Wes is most likely depth, not that it has been confirmed he has even signed.

Looks like Wes won't be staying, Dragons have apparently guaranteed him a fullback role and their offer is more "lucrative." I just hope he decides what's best for him and he doesn't get messed around afterwards, he deserves to be a starting firstgrader.

It's a hard one. I would take a punt that the Dragons are offering more money as well. So you have more money, a garunteed spot and a great winning culture (at least for the next two seasons or so) compared to potentially a depth role in a team that is very very likely to win a premiership in the next two years.

It depends what Wes wants. If winning a premiership and the friends in Newy are really important to him, then we might see him stick around. If i were Wes though, I'd stay around and see if i could work my way into the side with great performances. Plus Tahu is always injured.

Some other interesting/important parts from the article:

The Knights have offered Naiqama’s younger brother, Central Coast Centurions winger Kevin, a one-year contract, but Mather said he would consider that once Wes’s future had been resolved.
‘‘It’s an ethical issue,’’ Mather said. ‘‘I think it’s important we handle Wes’s deal separately to Kevin’s.’’

Mata’utia was cleared yesterday by the NRL’s match-review panel of a high tackle arising from Saturday’s 16-12 win against Penrith.
The panel ruled Mata’utia had no case to answer for his 21st-minute hit on Panthers fullback Lachlan Coote.

I think Wes will leave us next year. I don't blame him either given he has been guaranteed a starting position. We'll have Sau, Tahu, Likiliki and possibly young McKinnon as centers next year and Boyd and Gidley as fullbacks. I would personally like to see Sau and Wes but he can't take that risk and I doubt Bennett will make him a guarantee.

Gee if Wes leaves I hope Sau lives upto his potential. If I were a rival club i'd be trying to sign Wes instead of Sau based off Wes' versatility so the Dragons are making a smart recruitment choice if it happens. Life goes on, and Dragons fans can't whine too much about it.
Though I wonder if the "major announcement" the Knights are set to annouce when the team is named has to do with Wes (unlikely if its likely he'll go back to the Dragons)

Wes Naiqama's re-signing wouldn't come under as a 'major' announcement

As for him, I think he will go there. Why wouldn't you? More $$ and a fullback role. He isn't getting any younger.

Enjoy the Dragons. He will probably/should be depth here and we have better options with that.

With the way Wes has played this season he deserves to be in the centres next season ahead of both Sau and Tahu.

Good luck to him at the Dragons if that's where he decides to go. Still holding out hope that we re-sign him to a reasonable contract, but that's looking doubtful atm.

Maybe he does, but he wont.
