Confirmed: Knights sign Boyd for four years

Anybody who thinks WB is dumb enough to put hilder at 9 when clearly there are better options doesn't deserve to have an opinion on this.

CLEARLY Gidleys best position apart from 1 is 9..

CLEARLY Hilder is useless as an attacking hooker

CLEARLY we have two super talented youngsters aged 21 or younger who have shown glimpses brilliance at FG level. It would be a complete farce to deny either of them an opportunity to become great under Bennett in order to keep Hilder in a position that he is hopless in?? Not to mention that Gids makes a way better 9 than 7..

It baffles me ...

You obviously haven't watched the dragons since Bennett has been coach, Dean Young can't attack, yet is still played in the 9 most games for them.

I'm 100% expecting Gidley to be in the halves with Mullen next year.

Having a young inexperienced half like Henry or Roberts controlling the team around the park doesn't seem like Bennett's MO.

I can see Bennett going the same route with Gidley as he did with both Hornby and Lockyer - fullback to half.

There's a similarity between both Hilder and Young too, as in they could play very similar roles within a team.

There's the spine right there, which is very comparable to the Dragons.

1. Boyd - Same
6. Mullen - Comparable to Soward as in before Bennett, both players had tremendous potential they hadn't reached yet.
7. Gidley - Comparable to Hornby as in they're both experienced players with great leadership qualities made obvious by their captaincy and they were both fullbacks prior to Bennett's arrival.
9. Hilder - Comparable to Young as they're both solid experienced players who you know exactly what you're going to get from them. Both hooker and lock capable too.

Whats to say that Bennett wont use Mullen has the experiened half playing halfback and leading the team, and playing the inexperienced half at 5/8. Like carbonclay said, bennett was interested/excited to work with the halves we have and with Henry. That would more imply a Henry/Mullen combo to me.

I wouldnt be blindly comparing what our team will be like compared to what the Dragons are. Theres nothing to suggest Bennett will follow the same gameplan for the knights as he did the dragons. Same as the plan with the Dragons wasnt a copy of what he did with the Broncos.

With the release of Henry it looks like I was right mate.

A replacement hooker is yet to be signed, announced or any indication of that a junior hooker promoted, so there is still as much chance if not more of Gids still moving to hooker as in the halves so i cant see how.

How is there "as much chance if not more" that Gidley will move to hooker next year with the release of Henry? We just lost our starting five-eighth which means there's a massive vacancy there now. In other news our starting hooker just re-signed for another 2 years.

The writing's on the wall.

Where? The starting 5/8, that has played as many games as the 2nd 5/8?

And we just signed our starting lock/utility bench player/backup, 2nd Hooker for 2 years.

Our Starting hooker/Main hooker has and has always been De Gois, who has been given the boot.

Hilder has only been starting hooker when De Gois was injuried and theres was no one else to move there or when De Gois first comes back.

All succesful teams, need a good/great FB, Halve and Hooker. We have the FB, we have the halve, we dont have the Hooker.

Furthermoe there is nothing at present to suggest Bennett will simply make the Knights the dragons 2.0 in gameplan and player positions.

So there is certainly as much chance he is moving to 9 as 6/7.

For starters, Hilder is our starting hooker, not our starting lock. Look in the Big League or go on the Knights website or better yet watch the games on the weekend. Hilder starts and wears the number 9 jumper and plays dummy half for us. It's really not that complicated.

You keep mentioning De Gois and saying he's our main hooker and our starting hooker and blah blah blah like that somehow helps your arguement, but it really doesn't. As I already pointed out, you're wrong, and De Gois has already been given his walking papers for next year meaning he's not even in the picture, pointing more towards the fact that Hilder, our current starting hooker who just re-signed for another 2 seasons, will most likely resume his role within the team next year, unless of course we sign a hooker which remains to be seen yet.

So no, there certainly isn't as much chance of Gidley moving to 9 as there is with him moving to 6 or 7. Actually, it's significantly less with what's happened over the past couple of weeks, topped off by the release of Henry.

1. McDonnell (Bennett rates him from what I understand)
6. Boyd
7. Mullen
9. Gidley

You heard it here first.

McDonnell = Brilliant when he was 10kg lighter.

McDonnell without speed/agility = Average reserve grader.

McDonnell 10kg lighter = wouldnt last a second in the NRL.

If he is going down that path, we would be better with wes or pete at the back. Mcdonnell returns the ball so slowly in kick returns and gives us bugger all in attack.

He is a great support player, just doesnt follow the ball qiuck enough after he makes a tackle on the line, which has led to him being caught out a few times with a grubber behind the line.

Mcdonnell can be quite dangerous running off inside passes around the ruck when the fowards get tired, he has split the line a few times and scored this way.

I agree NF, he seems to find his way through defense quite easily.

Everyone makes mistakes.

uh oh.... mediocrity shown there. Quick! Get rid of it before sj18 rips you a new one! :P

In all seriousness though, I've thought McDonnell has been alright this year, better than Wes at fullback. He's our best option since Gids has been shifted to the halves. I went to the game up in Brisbane and Wes was awful, though...most of the team was average that night.
