Young isnt even the best hooker at his club.

Wayne Bennett doesnt like Playing Young at hooker, but is forced to due to injuries to Fein and King.
 
Two big ones for me is Hayne and Lewis. The rest I think, whatever, they'll give a good account of themselves.

Hayne over Morris, I know it wouldn't happen, but Morris is solid, not a game breaker. Hayne has so much talent and can lift. If not there then on the bench. That would mean Lewis would take Beau Scott's place. lewis is a good defender and a great attacker...with some size to boot. Hayne would be there over Young. It would make sense if Dugan was fb, Hayne has more skill when he wants to flaunt it, and so out of dummy half he could kill some silly QLDers.

Tbh i wouldn't have been too outraged if Hayne took Uate's spot. Hayne is proven at Origin level, screw his club form, that guy lifts for bigi games.

Cos im pretty sure one (aka a blues fan, or anyone really) can look at the blues "retrospectively" and be confident we can do it

Last year he played Priddis at hooker when Fien was injuried. After Young came back from injury he moved him straight into hooker and demoted Priddis onto the bench even tho he was going gun at hooker for them.

He has used Young at hooker and fien on the bench several times this year and last year.

Hasnt got anything to do with injuries. Bennett must justwant young has his hooker.

Nah, I'm pretty sure when Young came back from injury, he went to lock with Fien at hooker.
 
My take on the team.
>>I'm a diehard Knights fan but people on here are 2 biast towards Uate. Sure he can be good with the ball but his defence is not up 2 scratch IMO. When he plays against a good opposite winger like Vatuvei he has been shown up & had plenty of tries scored against him, particularly through kicks. Thank god Folau isnt playing anymore. I would of rathered Hayne there as his all round game is better. In saying this, hopefully having an experienced & in-form Gasnier inside him will help him during this game.
>>Again I think Penrith Fan is biast towards Jennnings as he hasn't done much this year & has barely worried the QLDers in past Origin fixtures. Not sure if Idris would be the answer but i think J.Morris would of been a good choice as the combination with his brother would make things gel better.

I have never really got behind the Hayne Train even in 09. He is an awful defender and has awful positioning and look back to last year game 1 to see how bad an idea Hayne on the wing is. Every series before that he was a winger at club level as well. Also I perfer players in there positions and not suffering injury's so that rules Lewis and Farah out. Hayne for me is over rated and is just the love child of the Sydney media, for once we have 2 props on the bench and players picked in their position and on form.

Despite my initial distaste, looking back on the team that was names, I believe that we actually have quite a good chance of winning.
Forums are not the place for word games.
 
Funny how for the last 3 years the press and all have been screaming for the NSW coach to do something "new" and pick different players, then the minute that happens they kick up a stink.

The one thing I have noticed about this team is that Ricky has picked players who will do the work, J Hayne loves the flashy stuff, but as a FB he is constanly out of position and never willing to get in and have a dig, Dugan will run the ball as hard on the first kick return as he will in the 80th minute.

Soward has been the form half/ 5/8th for NSW for the last 3 seasons, can he play at Origin level? well we are going to find out but of those available he is the one sticking his hand up the highest.

Greg Bird one man of the match in his both of his first 2 Origins, and Gallen was inspirational yesterday as he is in every game he plays.

About the only player I question is Trent Merrin, but we will see next Wednesday is this was the right decision.

I dont really have a problem with the halves really because sowards form says enough for him to be picked and they were saying last year they wanted to show some consistancey which is why i think pearce got the nod over mullen that being said though if that truly was the case then hayne would be in and lewis
I actually wouldnt mind seing how carney and mullen would have gone i think they could compliment each other quite nicely

Lewis's problem is he has only played 1 game in around 8 weeks. I Also have no problem with pearce being selected. He Done nothing wrong in Last years series. I realy hope they stick with the majority of this side with the exception of Gidley and TLL been added and maybe Lewis in game 2
 
My major concern is that i dont see our spine (ennis, pearce, soward, dugan) being able to match QLD's (smith, thurston, lockyer, slater) if it comes down to the wire and a big play is needed. Soward can kick field goals from anywhere but I have doubts whether he & pearce can set-up a match winning try if it is needed

Yeah but that's NSW's fault for not having a dominant spine. We're picking the best we can but it'd be nigh on impossible to pick a spine as good as QLD>

Pearce was pretty ordinary in Origin last series.

Gidley will be a walk up start for game two i'd imagine, he and Gallen we're the only two guaranteed selections anyway.
 
Gidley, Carney, Hayne, Lewis, Learoyd Lahrs, Idris and Tolman will play in the 2nd game after we lose, NSW love changing the team when they lose a game. Alround I thought Stuarts team was on the money maybe one or two above should have played but they key is to play the same 17 in all 3 games but there is a 0% chance of that happening they never learn..
 
I hate to say it but I think NSW really has the team to beat Qld this year. I can't see Qld winning Game I due to too many injuries (Hodges, Inglis def. out, question marks over Boyd, Lockyer & Thaiday).

NSW forward pack may not dominate the opening exchanges but I think they will step up in the later minutes of each half and give plenty of space for the outside backs to run riot through and inexperienced Qld back line.
 
New South Wales have named Kangaroos representative Jamal Idris as their 18th man for the State of Origin opener on May 25.

While no major injuries have been reported from the Blues camp, it emerged on Tuesday that Mark Gasnier could walk out of the NSW side at any moment for the birth of his first child.

Gasnier pipped Idris to the right centre spot after outsanding start to the season with St George Illawarra.

If an injury or withdrawal occurs before the State of Origin opener at Suncorp Stadium, Idris has the size and athleticism to cover a number of positions for the Blues.

Idris had been tipped as almost certain to make the 17-man squad after his strong performance coming off the bench for the Kangaroos in the mid-year Test.

A NSW media statement said the Canterbury-Bankstown star would join the Blues in camp on Tuesday for the team photo, which is being taken at Coogee Beach, Sydney.

Idris, who has been battling a stomach bug, will break from camp to play for the Bulldogs in Friday night's NRL match against Canberra.

He will travel down with the Bulldogs side on Thursday, before rejoining NSW camp on Sunday when they are scheduled to fly to Brisbane.
Bulldogs coach Kevin Moore was pleased to have his star centre available for the NRL match.

"That's a disruption for us, but he'll be back for Thursday (so) he'll train Thursday and go into the game on Friday as planned," Moore said.

Asked if he thought Idris - who made his Test debut for Australia earlier this month - was unlucky to miss selection in the original 17, Moore said: "I thought two or three of our blokes were a touch unlucky."

Gasnier and Uate have the potential to destroy Boyd and Nielson.
Early ball from Soward to Gasnier and NSW has a potential gamebreaking right wing.
