Four Nations Final: Australia v New Zealand @ Suncorp Stadium

Marshall has shown glimpses of brilliance, but he still hasn't controlled a game yet for NZ which has been left to Fien to do most of the ball playing. But that last 15 mins Benji really stood up and won the game for them.

Gallen was the player of the tournament imo. He was in everything

I didn't see the match, could anyone tell me how Gidley went?

Yes, Gidley seemed more comfortable in the centres, very solid, tackled well and ran the ball hard. Thank god there was no errors, but I'd rather Gidley be in a Four Nations game than not at all. He seemed confident and played really well. :)

Gidley was playing in the centres for the majority of the game & played solid, didn't make any errors thankfully, he definately looked alot more comfortable.

On topic, Benji has to be the best player in both Rugby codes at the moment, i can't think of any other player that is better currently.

David Pocock, Kurtley beale, if we're willing to go to other codes (although last night/htis morn was disappointing). On that note, Sonny Bill did some trademark offloads last nigiht o help the All Blacks smash Scotland.

Oh well you could make a case about Kurtley Beale, but i still stand by my Benji comment.

Was soo sad seeing Tate in the sheds at half time. He thinks he has played his last game ever in the NRL
Wonder if he would get any game time at the cowboys? After all he is going to play for them, not to sure how long he is contracted there for.

Nah Carney hasn't been that good since Finals Week 3 & Slater's been good but not as outstanding as Marshall.

Carney was good for Australia when he got a shot though, so he only really went quiet in the GF.

Marshall can't play good week in week out, once every few games he pulls out a flick pass and everyone talks him up to be a world beater. He is a freakish player but whether you like it or not Carney is a lot better than him and more consistent aswell.

36,000 - was a good atmosphere.

Was ok. The ball didn't go out to him... he got smashed everytime he had the ball...

Aslong as he didn't make any errors

Probably a good thing they went with him instead of Farah in the end, this is where a proper utility comes to good use.

Marshall is far more consistent than Carney?! This year Benji has excelled & played some great footy all year to get his Tigers 3rd after 26 rounds & 1 game away from the decider. He has played week in week out, 34 games i think & has excelled at both club level & international, he just needs to be given the chance by his forwards & he can create anything. He is a freak while on the other hand, Carney has played some pretty bad games this year. Carney was brilliant in the last 15 rounds or so but in the first half of the season he was really hot & cold probably due to him playing fullback. Bottom line is, at their best Benji is the better player & has been the best in 2010 imo. He has come of age & is starting to produce this kind of football consistently.

And Marshall hasn't?

Carney got the Dally M award and five eighth of the year aswell as getting his club to the grand final where as Marshall got within one game. Marshall is not the reason the Tigers finished 3rd, sure he contributed with some freaky plays but more often than not Farah produced the goods instead of Benji.

Without Carney do you honestly think the Roosters would of went from Wooden Spooners to Grand Finalists? Carney is far more consistent than Marshall and deserved all the wraps he got, he wasn't Dally M five eighth and player of the season over Marshall for no reason.

Just because Marshall has performed well for the past two games dosen't make him consistent, he sure in hell wasn't consistent for the Tigers and was very hot and cold at a few stages. Saying he is more consistent than Carney is a complete utter joke, I bet even most Tigers would agree with that statememt.

Yeah, it does feel a bit like that, maybe it's time for the likes of Lockyer & Civoniceva to move on. I've stated this before, but i'd love to see Australia picked on form, how good does this look at fullstrenghth:

1. Slater
2. Uate
3. Jennings
4. Inglis
5. Boyd
6. Carney
7. Prince
8. Shillington
9. Smith
10. Scott
11. Lewis
12. Thaiday
13. Gallen

14. Gidley/Farah
15. Learoyd-Lahrs
16. Bird
17. Young

If it was on form Michael Gordon would be playing fullback or wing tbh.

If the team was chosen on form, Uate and Gordon would both be on the wing with Boyd at fullback and Carney at 5/8th. This has got to be Lockyer's last rep game, sadly he offers nothing anymore.

Gee you guys are a little harsh on Lockyer. He was far from out worse.

I don't see it as harsh at all.

He is way past his best and it angers me and many other Australia fans that he is keeping the games best player and 5/8th out of the team.

Lockyer deserved his spot. Every time we think he's past his best, he usually puts in a great performance for Aus/QLD (Not the case this time though). People were saying he was past his best years ago, yet still out played his halves partner who is arguably the best player in the world, JT for both Aus/QLD.

He may not be the player he once was, but he provides stabilty and structure to the team. At times, Cronk looked like a headless chook out there.

But i think now would be the perfect time for him to retire from rep footy.. He's achieved everything in the game.

Can't blame it all on Lockyer, Cronk is pretty inept at Rep level and nowhere near as good as Thurston, our outside backs are very average aswell so we have precious little firepower. Lockyer had a good season with the Broncos and was Queensland's best imo during Origin he's definitely not past it.

But the team still dominated last week... in NZ and Cronk was one of our best.

Australia looked much better with Carney, Boyd, Lawrence and Farah.

New Zealand would have felt even more confident when players they have already dominated before took to the field (World cup... Slater, Lockyer, Gidley etc)

James said it earlier, already a win for NZ selection wise. And whether Sau was injured or not, playing Mannering in the centres was a good move defensively.

Australia lacked any sort of creativity and individual brilliance , showed what happens when you miss the likes of JT , Hayne and Inglis .

I was hoping Tim Mannah would be picked for this series , he's very hardworking and pretty error free compared to the likes of Gallen and Bird

Gallen was one of the best all series, Bird would have been MOTM had Aussies won the other night IMO.

At the end of the day I thought NZ's pack ran riot. Smith & Eastwood just tore us apart with aggression.

Learoyd Lahrs can put on a mean face and all, but that's about it.
