Smithy going to the Roosters next season (confirmed)

We are going to have a field day on his arse.

Burro should be ransacking his office, dumping his stuff in the EAS carpark, and told never to come back. I would be!

His daughter also wants to go to Sydney Uni but really, it's the $$$.

If that is the main reason, it's the lamest reason I have ever heard. My parents never moved with me to uni - I moved out!

Brian Smith OUT!

Yeh, his daughter going to uni has nothing to do with it, a large percentage of kids have to move away to go to uni, most of which i would think are in a worse financial position then the smith family.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't want him hanging around the club preparing for a rival next year. Regardless if he took us to a grand final.

Players wouldnt want to play 100% for him now, knowing he wont be their next yr. It could be the end of 2007 all over again

That's not really fair. He did do a lot. Without him, we wouldn't be in this position of wanting to keep him.

The two parties had actually reached an agreement on the extension more than a week ago, but delayed making an announcement until the final details of the deal had been sorted out.

The final announcement was never made.

Newcastle coach Brian Smith has reportedly signed on to coach the Sydney Roosters from next season.

The Nine Network reports Smith will replace Brad Fittler at the helm of the Roosters club in 2010, ending his three-year association with the Knights.

Rumour about Fittler's future at Bondi Junction have swirled for much of the season, given the club's reluctance to enter negotiations to re-sign him, but the appointment of Smith to fill the role is a major surprise given he's under contract to the Knights for another year.

Smith has taken the Knights from cellar-dwellars to major finals contenders in the space of three seasons, but Newcastle is reportedly willing to release the former Dragons and Parramatta coach from the final year of his contract to join the Roosters.

Fittler's Roosters have fallen from grace dramatically this season, and are languishing at the bottom of the ladder after a top four finish last season.

My friend travels down to a sydney uni 5 days a week. She's fine. She also has to pay for petrol, and her dad isn't making anywhere near the kind of money that Smith would be. If that is the actual reason, then I want to hit something.

Burraston just spoke to Foxsports News and said that they never saw Smith as a long term option and always said that if he was offered another position that they wouldn't stand in his way.

He mentioned that Rick Stone & Co will stay with the Knights and they are looking at all options for a coach for next year.

He has signed for 4 years with the Rooster and we couldn't offer him the same.

I say good on them for being professional about it and I hope that he can achieve sonething great this year with the Knights.

The players are moreprofessional than that, they will play for themselves and the team. We finished off as well with Hagan I cannot see why they would slack off for Smith.

Well if they knew in the back of their minds BS could be leaving anytime they would of had to have some strategy for a replacement coach.

It is vital we get a good coach, because the next few yrs will be our biggest chance of a title in yrs

:brickwall::brickwall::brickwall::brickwall::brickwall: (not at you Maddog).

It's also not fair to fans and players who thought he was going to be there next year.

If we don't get a good coach for next year, it'll be a grim year for Newcastle sports next year (if Branko doesn't do the business for the Jets).

Players wouldnt want to play 100% for him now, knowing he wont be their next yr. It could be the end of 2007 all over again

Exactly.

No Johns coaching/captaining the side this year mate.

But yes the players should be professional enough to finish well, put if a few things go wrong they might not have the coaching they need to get back on track

This is total sh*t he sacks all the players, builds his new team and ****es off.
and barring the a miracle like Gus returning we'll be stuck with someone average like Sharp or Royce Simmons or even worse Stone or Rohan Smith
and they announce it now 2 months out from the finals
**** Brian Smith and f*ck the stupid c*nts who run the club
