Your Team vs Raiders Round 4

BTP

Max Chapman
He is consistantly our best in reserve grade, but the best i'd hope for in firstgrade would be that he might hold his own for a short stint.
And that is probably all we need him for. Enough for Leo to have a break for 10 mins of each half. I mean who knows, in the time spent on field we may be defending the whole time or have a block of possession. Just needs to hold his own and add energy.

1 Miller Going really well infact i wouldn't put Ponga back there .
2 Young He had an ordinary game in some aspects but played well in others can't leave him out .
3 Gagai Went alright .
4 Best Went alright .
5 Hunt Mister ever dependable in attack and defence , wonder how he would go in the back row ..
6 Gamble I like this guys aggression and think he will only get better through the season .
7 Hastings Hope he stays on the field .
8 Crocker I like the way he plays a quiet achiever .
9 Brailey Be nice to keep him on the field for an extended period.
10 Thompson Going well although i would like to see him in the backrow.
11 Johns Seems to be talented and works hard .
12 Fitzgibbon Seems to be running the good lines again this year.
13 Jones I still think he had his best game ever at centre .

14 Crossland I think he is playing well.
15 Cant He deserves another go .
16 Hetherington A little more aggression from him would be good
17 Talty Haven't seen him play but a lot of people think he is good and ready 10 min either side of half time maybe

Did Marz just play himself into 1st grade? Does Dom get dropped after one horrendous game with his hands? Dom still made strong runs and got us penalties. Marz isn't guaranteed to any good defensively or under high ball, especially with Raiders tall wingers.

I don't agree with dropping Hymel, his D is sound and his runs are strong and regular.

Below is a snapshot of stats - Hollis only 9 runs in 40mins. Lazy.

Alchin - 13 runs for 130m is good stats

Still don't think anyone in forwards is jumping out for a debut.

Where probably better off having Fitzy move to front row when a benchy comes on and I'd prob give the nod to Talty to come in at 13 for 20 mins. This is if we don't sign anyone better.

I was impressed with Talty in the second trial. I know he came in late like a lot of the reggies but he made an impact and I’ve been keen to see how he goes in firsts ever since. I hope they give him a run.

I like Talty, think he can play longer than 10 each half, has been around a little while so knows the ropes, worth starting at 13 and get what we can out of him then someone like Cant can replace him with Hetherington and Jones relieving 8 & 10.

I have not seen a lot of talty do you think he is ready for first grade not that we have much choice.

The biggest red flag i see with his stats although busy with 18 runs,129m from 18 runs is pretty poor. And NRL is going to be more physical .

For comparasion our forwards vs dolphins

D Saf 10 runs 126m 12.6m per run
Croker 11 runs 115m 10.4m per run
Leo 10 runs 92m 9.2m per run
Jack 5 runs 54m 10.8m per run

Talty 18 runs 129m 7.1m per run (NSW CUP)

He isn't ready not even close

Young needs to be dropped he didn't do anything good at all, nothing zip he made more errors than the opposition it not even reserve grade standard.

As for Hetherington he can't be aggressive at the moment, one high shot he is suspended for sure. He has to be squeaky clean!

Yeah in regards to hetherington you could see he got fired up and nearly did something stupid right at the end of the warriors game.

Talty may not be ready but he is better option at 13 than what we have fit and ready to go, believe he is 24yr so mature enough to handle it, unless we sign another player, most unlikely, give him a go, he is at least a middle forward.
Whinging is ok but at least come up with a alternative, an answer, you have 10+ injuries etc then some players will debut earlier than you would like and may not play well enough to be accepted as a 1st grader but we sometimes have no choice

Talty was very good at the end of last year and I thought he might have been close then. That was at prop. He is playing lock this year and I think that suits him more. One thing about being a prop over a lock, you can get some "cheap" yards from kick off's and drop outs that bump your average up, although I think they are also the scariest runs to take sometimes.

Thats a good point i did not even consider he was playing lock that also explains why leo's average metres per run was less than the others.

Leo just isn’t that strong with hits-ups either tbh, he gets stopped and pushed back more often than you’d like. Good player and good prospect overall but I like the idea of him more as a second-rower.

Leo doesn’t get many PCM’s but he’s been pretty smart about getting to his front ASAP in the tackle.

The game is changing though and a prop who makes 90 metres a game but pushes line speed, hits like a truck in defence and consistently applies kick pressure is more valuable than a straight up and down 150m+ per game guy who doesn’t have those defensive attributes.

Would not be the slightest bit surprised if Leo wins the Knights Gladiator Award at the end of season preso. The guy has been getting better each week and was a vital part of our win against the Tigers.

Hame Sele is in concussion protocols and is a key part of Souths’ rotation so that’s a non-starter.
