World Cup 2025

About the only option left, can’t have it in England again straight away. This one was originally meant to be in the USA, so this is the second country to pull out of it.

I hope NZ get a decent amount of games or even can host the whole thing, if it’s down here. Back in 2017 there were barely any games in NZ and although I think the games here got better crowds than the games in Aus did, it felt like our matches were tacked on to the event and didn’t create much of a buzz (apart from Tonga’s success of course).

Saw a news article on a turkish news program of all places that said 4 countries have expressed interest - Qatar, South Africa, New Zealand and Fiji.
They made a good case for Qatar - wonderful facilities all ready to go at a moments notice.
They didn't mention the women's WC.

If you ever want to destroy one of your devices, take a big sip of water, then look up how many migrant workers died building those “wonderful facilities”.

Strong “no” from me on Qatar. I’d like to think we have better values than the world of association football. Low bar to clear I know!

Yep, it would be good from a money and possibly exposure point of view, but it’s absolutely not worth all the other negatives involved in Qatar.

Fiji I don’t think has the facilities, as far as I know there’s only one stadium that would be up to standard, and it isn’t large capacity either.

South Africa might be possible but there’s no large scale interest in the game there.

NZ it is then! 🥳😅

PNG did OK with 1 group located there last time.
I wouldn't mind 1 group in PNG, 1 group in Fiji, 1 group in Wellington, 1 group in Auckland - finals split between Wellington and Auckland - GF in Auckland.

Reading that the current plan is for a 10 team world cup with the quarter finalists from last WC being automatic qualifiers - so only 2 spots for Cook Islands, France, Italy, Greece, jamacia, Canada, USA, Wales, Scotland etc etc to fight over.

On the plus side, all 10 sides will be strong, and I assume they will all be paid the same to compete.

I'd say there should be an emerging nations WC held as an amatuer comp at the same time.

Really disappointing that all those sides will miss out. Part of the enjoyment for me is seeing those smaller league nations live their dream and play against Australia or NZ.

I suppose overall it will lead to closer games and a more viewer friendly product, but at what cost to spreading the game and getting further support in other countries in future?

Wales, Cook Islands, France and Scotland should all be there as a minimum imo, and two of them won’t even be able to fit in. So we might as well give up on places like the USA, Canada, etc.

Anyway, the Emerging Nations World Cup you mention Billy will definitely need to make a comeback.
