Another one lost to Penrith - Knights confirmed via twitter.

Honestly, don't think he's been too good anyway.

Why would we need our own players when we can sign Dragons players?

He hasn't been great this year, but he's only half a season into seniors. I'll still be sad to see him go.

He was always going to follow uncle Garth - surprized it took 2 years.

He probably should go right now because I think we are only giving him gametime to help him develop. I'm sure he won't get a game over Tonga Likiliki or Josh Mantellato on merit when they are back from injury soon.

Will Smith has had a slow start to the year in NSW Cup but the talent is there.

I'll be pretty ropeable if we lose more of our good backs so we can sign that Dragons nuffy, Quinlan.

Well at least the Quinlan signing makes a little more sense now.

Do Panthers have a single junior of their own??

Anyway, Smith is one of the few losses I'm okay with, hasn't been that great at all, we have plenty of better juniors in our system ready to take his place.

I'd be very surprised if many of them were actually their own juniors, if they are somehow, then why do they need to do so much poaching?

Go have a look at their U20's and SG Ball line-ups, basically all local guys and were/are up the top in both comps. All their signings have been for ready made FG depth signings if needed over the next couple years while they get their cap sorted out. They have all their top juniors signed up long term except Jennings at the moment as there are rumours he is going to join his brother at the Roosters. Can't stand Gus but he is doing an excellent job in turning the Panthers around and I wish he did the same for us a couple years ago when we seeked him for help.

Just looked at their U20's team from a few rounds ago, probably half of them aren't even from Sydney let alone the Penrith area and you'd expect most SG teams to be majority local and their NSW Cup side is nearly all imports. But anyway, you'd think if their young players were that good they wouldn't have to sign so many fringe players.

Everyone's going to Penrith, are they just pulling money out of their backsides or..? People say that we're bad with recruitment.

I'd love to put the boot in, but Penrith's recruits for next year are just about all quality and they are building towards an impressive team. Some good juniors to base their team around then throw in guys like Soward, Taylor, Kite and K Naiqama and you're going places.

Penrith have a catchment area 2 or 3 times bigger than us and have a junior programme that just seems to have hundreds of talented kids. Many young guys from Newcastle go there because it's the best programme.
But the funny thing is, they don't seem to get many of their brilliant juniors through to the seniors.
Garth Brennan seems to have taken a different mindset from Newcastle to Penrith. In the past the kids there seemed to think a great career in the juniors was enough, but Brennan seems to be looking for firstgraders of the future, like we do in Newcastle.
I think they are on the right track now, and we will see a lot of local juniors come through in the next 5 years.

I just don't see Will Smith playing in the NRL anytime soon. If Penrith can throw enough at him, then take him off our hands. Players are coming through, I don't think Smith is a loss were going I regret keeping.

He definitely went to the wrong club. There is so much talent coming through that club in the outside backs and halves especially. A team like the Sharks would of been a better choice imo. Not so much the halves but their outside backs are shocking.

I've been saying for years that Will Smith reminds me of a young Brad Tighe. Now he can replace him.
