That's an unfair statement, even the most success driven players would jump ship for an upgrade like we were supposedly offering.

I get that, but posters have suggested he mailed it in due to the contract dispute. That's what I'm alluding to. Would you pay overs for someone who only plays when he wants to and mails it in when he doesn't get his way? I wouldn't. That's not someone worth breaking the bank for. I could never envision Cronk doing that. He's the consummate professional, yet apparently Sharks were silly to offer him $1M instead of upgrading Maloney's deal despite the fact he's signed through to 2018 and they have no obligation to. The way he played the back half of the year, they were right not to upgrade his deal as his play completely fell off a cliff. I'm not rewarding someone for that.

That's pretty speculative. I think it's far more likely the whole Sharks squad was just off this year. Coming off a premiership winning season can do that to teams.

Sharks had a fantastic premiership defence.

It's hard to go back to back. It's even harder when you lose arguably your best player in Ennis and a key playmaker in Barba.

As for Maloney, I don't think he mailed it in either. I've previously stated that in this thread, I'm just entertaining the idea. I think it's plausible that he may have been unhappy and/or questioning his future which effected his form. Either way, the reasoning doesn't change the fact that he asked for a big pay increase and his play considerably dropped off.

This century slots no one has been capable of going back to back.

Even the little level playing field the salary cap has managed to introduce has seen to that.

Out in straight sets and never looked any good all year, with Maloney playing like a bloke trying to get sacked.

I'm almost sure Cronk had chosen not to play rugby league next year and take up the Storm coaching role? Which means the Sharks will hold onto Maloney.

Anyway considering we have Connor Watson now, I'm fine with our halves situation as it is for 2018 pending the player market changes. No need to overpay a player chasing a redemption story. I am so ready for Lamb and Watson to be the halves maybe at some point next year and full time in 2019. And if bringing in someone older that isn't Hodko with less of a loose head as a backup by then is the case so be it.

More than happy with lamb, watson and hodko giving them a week off here and there. After his hissy fits in the back half of the year I honestly think he'd be poison to our culture for years after he left. (maloney)

Bit of a wet dream but can see us in 4-5 years being a club players get their managers to chase for us.

Maloney would be great but no way is he coming to Knights, need Cronk to move to Sharks then Maloney to be free agent, us best/highest bidder, not very likely. What we have now is very good, Lamb, Watson, Hodko, Cogger plus others, need to look at following year when Hodko leaves, only this year if he leaves early. The transition should be gradual, one or two changes per season per positions with the view to improving and developing. We should be looking at moving up 2-4 positions each season with top 4-8 in 3 years then other players will want to come

Moylan should be the one we're enquiring about.

    he's 26.
But he's not worth the big coin he is after.
especially that we have his 2 positions filled.

Lol 29. He's 26 with high upside. Could see him being the future Blues five-eighth if he lands in the right spot. There's more pros with Moylan than Maloney at this point IMO.

    - Much younger than Maloney.
    - Has high upside and yet to hit his prime where as Maloney is on the wrong side of 30 and coming off a terrible form slump.
    - Likely asking for less than Maloney's $1M.

There's a reason Sharks are in hot pursuit of him to replace Maloney.
