Steve Simpson announces retirement

Sorry to see him go, but I had a feeling his injuries were going to catch up with him sooner or later.
 
One of the greatest players to ever pull on the red and blue. You cannot possibly put into words what hes done for the club or what he means to Knights fans. I'll miss you Simmo, congrats on everything you achieved..you deserved it all and more
 
Stil remember him preventing a try by Hindmarsh in the 2001 GF so we went to the break 24-0 probably the hardest working player I have ever seen, today is a sad day for Newcastle Supporters, wish him well in his future endeavours.

It can be said that Simpson left nothing in the tank when he walked of the field!

Simmo...truly one of the greats...once a Knight, always a Knight...
 
We should retire the 11 jersey for the rest of the season. To show respect to Simmo or at least retire it for the old boys game. He was a great player and perhaps our best second rower ever the only one that would be on the same level as him would be Marc Glanville.
 
He was holding back tears in the press conference, it would of been a very hard decision for him, but I think he made the right one.
 
Sad day for newcastle fans, seeing a club legend announce his retirement. Its hard to think he has officialy played his last game for the Knights. Now thats Johns, Buderus and Simpson who have had a bad end to there carrer
 
It's so sad that he couldn't leave on his own terms. He was a club legend and will never be forgotten

So now 3 Knights greats retired injured: Joey, Buderus and Simpson.

Very sad to see him go. He was a legend. Wish there were more guys in the NRL like him.

I wish he didnt have to go out this way.

Simmo was a great player and always gave 100% every game. Hopefully he can remain part of the club in some capacity
 
Love u simmo sorry to see u go mate... sad also is all the **** we inglis happens the day he anounces it... He has to be given a coaching role doesn he?? defensive coach??
 
sad this day has come....a true champion and will be missed by all knights fans.....best of luck simmo....the knights and the supporters will truly miss you....
 
I wish he could make it back for one more game - I wonder why he has given up on that, when a few days ago he was saying he'd be back for sure.
 
well I hope NBN had a story on Simmos' retirement because there was nothing about it at all on 10,7,9 and Foxsports...they featured every other rugby league story of the day but Simmos' and to me that was not just disappointing, it was disgraceful and an insult...

I thought i might post Simmo's picture up as respect. Bloody legend & he's a great bloke too. He'll always be remembered as one of the most feared & respected back rowers in the game. I applause your great career.:applause:
