Unfortunately the problem with recruitment is that you can only buy what's on the market. As Joshhh said above, you pay what you think a player is worth to your club at that point in time. Sometimes you might pay overs if it's a player you really want, but generally not.

(Without delving back into the transfer market when we signed him to confirm) Hodko was probably the best available halves option at the time.

Regardless of the roster the coach had at that time to work with, they still had Mullen in the sides (dodgy hamstrings notwithstanding).

If they'd formed a consistent combination and the trophy cabinet didn't have as much timber added to it we'd probably be having a different discussion around Hodko.

Plenty of if's in rugby league, and what could have been. Unfortunately, it could also be said if Hodko lived up to even half of the expectation in his time here, we probably wouldn't have added that timber to the trophy cabinet, or not all of it.

I don't go by what could have happened, I go by what actually happened.

Definitely not disagreeing with you there. Only one team per season gets to sign off without an 'if' in their footnotes.

We'll win more premierships in time. The only time 'if' should be used between now and then is in pre-season when the boys ask each other "if we have done everything we need to do to be premiers this season".

I prefer to say 'maybe' it's this year. Everything that happens next is why we love this game.
 
Has anyone watched him play? is he any good? Its not a good sign that hes a reserve in the English league.
But will be good to see how he goes on Saterday.
 
Hopefully he's got some sort of hidden potential, because his size as a prop suggests he won't be much more than a toiler. If we want toilers, there's plenty of them here already in Australia who are probably better & worth less the trouble. We should only look to England for players who will be really good.
 
Having watched him on ESL, a toiler is the precise word I would use for him Joshhh. Do not think his fitness level is all it could be but being on the smaller size for a prop, this may be deliberate. As you bsay being a bench forward in England would be a whole different ball game to a starting prop in the NRL.
