Dugan, 26, wants to have his long-term NRL future to be sorted out before he runs out in round one, which is just 2 weeks away.

It is believed the Dragons have tabled a offer to Dugan worth around $750,000 per season over 3-years and are unwilling to pay a dime more.

The multi-million dollar signing of Ben Hunt has complicated thing for both the Dragons and Josh Dugan, as both parties try to agree on a deal.

Dugan is believed to be demanding up to $1 million dollars per season.

But, The Dragons are likely to shift him to the centres this season, with talented under 20’s star Matt Dufty expected to wear the No.1.

The Dragons are hesitate to be paying a centre that much money.

Top level representive centres could be able to command around $500,000-a-year, half of what Dugan is asking.

Dugan could be tempted to test the open market if the Dragons are unwilling to pay close to what he is asking.

There wouldn’t be any shortage of takers either for the 26-year-old, with the Roosters, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Parramatta Eels and a Cashed up Newcatle Knight willing to pounce.

Dugan joined the Dragons mid-way through the 2013 season after the Raiders terminated his contract at the start of the season following a string of off-field incidents.

Dugan has since made 67 appearances for the Big Red V, scoring 25 tries for the club and has become one of their most attacking player on their list.

1 Dugan 6 Ponga 7 Lamb 9 Levi for 2018 would be good to me lol

na pass, accident prone and there is a very good reason why the Dragons are moving him to the centres ( and thats where he plays rep ) because he's a centre. To win these days you need a ball playing fullback - Dugan is not. He should take the money on offer at the Dragons because thats good coin for a centre.

The mention of the Knights is a beat up no doubt.

I also see Ponga as a fullback and not a 5/8. Boy of his skills should be playing fullback.

He'll be lucky to find a better deal elsewhere, that's too much for a centre already.

He's very overrated nowadays. I have no idea how he played for NSW and Aus last year.

I rate Dugan but really not for more than $750,000 and i wouldnt want to pay a centre more than $500,000 either and as far as Ponga goes he plays as a 5/8 as much as a centre a lot of the time imo he would kill it at both ...

Indeed, leaves me scratching my head. I can only speculate that hes chosen as another fullback option in case Bennett's love child goes down.

Cant see him in a blue jumper this year

12 months ago he is exactly what we needed but no need now. But don't get me wrong, this club loves to over pay their backs

Damn, you beat me to the punch.

No way is Dugan worth that much money, he's well overrated and we have already bought one of the best young talents in the game to play fullback. Hope he doesn't play for NSW or Australia this year.

Good player but not what we need and would demand too much cash.

He is a centre, good quality but highly injury prone. Look how much State of Origin costs St George=Illawarra with his off the field times.

Good for say $350,000 a year inside Ross Dawg! We have a full back for next year is why the kid signed here.

Looks like we are replacing union as players go to threat to get players contracts increased.
