Rugby league Pet Hates.

The interpretations of rules being changed around all the time is annoying, but as far as tinkering with the game, I'm a supporter of Vlandysball. It might be an unpopular opinion but I think the game is in a better state than it was in the 2010s. The games are more exciting, friends I have that aren't NRL or even sports fans can enjoy a game now. It's far from perfect, but I think it was the right thing to move away from the defence heavy, penalty heavy grindfests of yesteryear. Lack of innovation is what kills a lot of things.

My pet hate is seeing our players pull out of putting a completely legal shot on the kicker, yet ours get out on the ground and smashed when kicking routinely.

You see our players run at the kicker as if to put kick pressure on, but they realise they are going to get there in time to hit the player whilst kicking so they slow up on purpose to let them get the kick away.

Also, the ref screaming out nothing late every end of set as a player goes out to put kick pressure on.

I disagree.
It was a dangerous practice to put pressure on the neck, and now that players make it clear when they feel pressure on the neck, every tackler tries to avoid doing it, which is a good outcome.
Same with hip drop tackles. It's become very clear that a huge number of leg injuries have come from hip drops over the years, and now guys are trying hard to avoid doing it, which can only be a good thing.
Just to be clear, I have no problem with the penalty, the interpretation and the stand in the game of player safety first…my gripe is the blatant ‘milking’ by some teams and some players (Jordan Rapana is a regular exponent of the ‘milk’) that p!$$3$ me off.

I’m not asking for any changes to the rule, the interpretation or the application…my beef is with those who actually diminish the importance of the rule by trying to ‘game’ an advantage.

The whole Raiders side are told to do it, I call it the Ricky Stewart school of acting.

Players who don't play the ball with their foot ... and seemingly are not even making an attempt to. It's not hard.
I played for about 17yrs and playing it was never a problem. These guys are professional and somehow don't seem to know how to do it. I hate seeing the casual rollback-while-stepping-over-the-ball.
They used to penalise that and now it happens 2-3 times a game

I used to love the raiders as a second team but there’s so many villains in that team now and having lived not far from Canberra and worked there you can’t help but feel that they’d all have to have a level of ****wit about them.

6 again rule, take Raiders V Titans, according to Tele Raiders got 10 to Titans 1
Agreed these tactics like slowing up play are a blight on the game yet they are allowed to continue all game but with other consistent fouls players/team are warned of likely send off.
Surely those 10 would have involved a few players more than once and a warning given or a penalty giving them distance and 6 tackles, bunker could keep tabs on offenders

My pet hate is the bunker. How many times does it go upstairs, it all looks pretty black and white and all of a sudden the crowd is going nuts because the bunker has imagined some BS interpretation that’s reversed everything. It’s essentially useless

Also Graeme Annesley. Even when he’s explaining why the refs got it 100% correct he is gaslighting the viewers. “People have a perception”, “they imagine things”, “decisions are independent of the nrl”, “they are misunderstanding the rules”. The guy is a rat headed, Pinocchio nosed lying bastard. He is basically a solicitor (defence) for terrible decisions with zero opportunity for prosecution and he is a waste of space and a blight on the game. His terrible analysis affects every game each week, not just Newcastle and the outcome is always the same. “Nothing to look at here, move on”

It's more an off-field thing but the NRL thinks it's so clever putting another team in Brisbane and now Perth seems to be the front runner to be the next one in and that's all well and good but...they already had this.
My question is why they didn't do more back in '97 to keep those teams. Why'd they ever let 'em wither on the vine? If they were broke, bail 'em out.
Did people forget? I know plenty that have. When I've mentioned the Western Reds or the South Qld Crushers to people, idiots I guess, they've looked confused and have given a vague "oh yeah, I think I remember them" reply. Jesus wept! did you have amnesia? suffer a concussion or what?
And now the tigers wanna keep the flames of 1995 burning as they once more declare Parramatta Stadium to be their home ground (one of three, no wonder they don't know if they're coming or going)...Everything old is new again and never more so than in the game of rugby league.
