    Be thankful for small mercies!

Whilst we may get a touchup, at least it will not be on a -6ยบ night in a cold, cold Canberra. Still and all I am prediicting it will be a freezing day following all the hot air leaving the nation's capital the day after the elections!

    Brown's Round 17 update

    Tue 28th June, 01:36PM
    [FONT=&amp]
Newcastle Knights coach Nathan Brown has provided a team update approaching the side's Round 17 match against the Canberra Raiders this Sunday.

Dane Gagai, who backed up for the Knights' match against the St George Illawarra Dragons after featuring in game two of State of Origin earlier in the week is fit and on track to line-up at fullback again for this weekend's game.

"Dane was in this morning for a bit of rehab, but I've given him a few days off to freshen up.

"He will officially be back at training on Thursday," Brown said on Tuesday morning.

    "He has pulled up well.

"We will try to give him a bit of time to freshen up after Origin.

"With his change to fullback, he covers a lot of extra distance, which he's still trying to learn to do that load.

"With the Origin, he's playing in a big environment there, so any chance we can give him to freshen up it's probably to his benefit."

Likewise, halfback Trent Hodkinson and joint-captain Jeremy Smith were also on light duties at Tuesday's session.

Meanwhile, Jarrod Mullen is nearing a return to the field after a hamstring injury he sustained at the start of the season.

"He's probably ahead of schedule a little bit so we are hopeful we will get through the bye week and he will be available for the Melbourne game (Round 19) if everything keeps going as it is," Brown said.

"It's a couple of weeks earlier than what we expected, but it's a bit of pleasing news.

"Mullo is out there working hard and is keen to get back. Someone of his experience would only help the younger halves."

Jake Mamo is back to fitness after overcoming an ankle injury and is in the mix to return this week.

"Jake is training and got through the session no worries so again, he's someone who will be up for selection as well," he said.

The Newcastle Knights hit the road to take on the Canberra Raiders in the nation's capital on Sunday with Brown expecting a physically demanding game from their oppoent.

"You need to tackle them well that's for sure," he said when asked about how to approach the Raider's forward pack.

"They have a lot of big boys and have caused a lot of teams a lot of trouble.

"The key for us, as it is every week, is our tackle technique and trying to get some consistency in it."

Love to see Rossy do a Somersault after scoring sometime this year.
Blacklock used to do backwards somersaults, and even Danny Wicks could do them, but Rossy has a whole range of them.
In this clip (towards the end) he does a forward somersault, and I think earlier in that game he did a forward with a half twist and ended up backwards. Pity they didn't show that.

Too bad he's only won 3 games & scored in one of those which was a close win. Don't think he'd pull it out unless we were smashing a side, otherwise it'd be a bit inappropriate.

Brown said he'll be back after the next bye if everything goes well.

Think I'd pick just about anyone over Cogger at the moment. It does him no favours when he's clearly not FG standard yet.

Chanel has a shoulder injury, but is down as for test, so he could be a late inclusion, as could Mamo.

Surely Elliot and Cogger deserved to go. Chanel and Uate are playing reserve grade whilst Elliot who may be the worst player in the comp is walk up starter for some ridiculous reason. We should give Randell the 6 as well, what's remaining of Cogger's confidence will be gone very soon and having Randell 3 in on the left edge might go some way to stop all the points we're conceding on that side.

How come Tyrone Roberts got years of tea and sympathy when he was clearly struggling, and Cogger gets the torches and pitchforks out after 20 bad minutes.

What turned me off Ross for a while was the carry on after a try in a game we were getting blown off the park. He seems to have matured a lot because he was entitled to carry on deluxe after Saturday's try.

There's a difference between getting up happy and getting up signalling you're number 1 when you're down by 40. I agree that he's one of the very few that seem happy at the moment.

Good on him doing that - we need more players with his confidence.

He is also the only one trying his guts out every game. His enthusiasm is beyond and if the blokes took just one page out his book they would be better for it.
