Apparently the Knights have given Anthony Tupou a 1 year contract... not a bad pick up. Can see him playing a similar roll to what Clint Newton played a couple of years ago.

Good injury cover. Better sending him out at lock that someone like Bhana.

    He's 33

At the very least it will be good to have him training with the younger guys

And who knows, he may even offer some steady defense in the middle of the field after an injury or two

Man he was a great hitting backrower in his day, rattled a few big boppers over the yrs.

Will do ok in cup and wont let first down off the bench for 20mins here and there.

100% better option the Bhana or Fitsgibbon on last yrs efforts from them anyway.
I hope fitz has a big yr though as his got the size to be very damaging out wide.

Knights scramble to replace Sims with Anthony Tupou signing

THE Newcastle Knights have extended the NRL career of former Test forward Anthony Tupou.

The 33-year-old has signed a 12-month contract with the Knights, who will rely on his experience to help cover the unexpected exit of senior figures Jarrod Mullen and Korbin Sims this season.

A Newcastle local junior, Tupou moved to the Sydney Roosters in 2004 before then joining the Cronulla Sharks in 2009.

Tupou played 125 games over seven seasons at the Sharks before departing at the end of 2015 to take up a two-year deal with Super League outfit Wakefield.

A former NSW and Australian representative back rower, Tupou played 18 games for Wakefield, scoring four tries before being recently released due to homesickness.

Tupou began training with the Knights this week and will push to play in the club’s last pre-season trial against the Canberra Raiders on February 18.

Just what our young guys need a bit of experience. For mine better than Stocky, Fat Pat, Pauli and King so he may see some bench time.

A good signing replacement after Jeremy Smith retire for sure, both players similar in skill. Plus I remember Tupou in his day having great offloads and hard to tackle him, not sure what he like now havnt been following the super league but the experience will sure help our young forwords:)

Handy pickup. Could even get himself a spot on the bench I reckon.

Definitely a handy addition to the squad on and off the paddock. Will provide the experience and bolster our depth. I'd have him over Bhana any day. Our bench is the hardest to pick now.

Tupou is a better signing than Heighington worked out well for us.

Was ok with the signing at first when I thought it was purely a NSW Cup signing. But now hearing about him being a replacement for Sims? Tupou hasn't been First Grade standard for about 3 years.

Great pick up. I think he'll be good enough to be in our top side till one of the younger guys screams to be picked.

At the very least he will provide experience which we are sorely lacking.

Looks like he is filling out one of the top 25 spots. Better than giving bhana or Fitzgibbon a pay rise.

It's the media banging on about him being a replacement for Sims, not the Knights.

He's a solid signing and gives us a bit more depth, and experience. He can be a player our young forwards can learn from.

I have to say, I am very pleased with the recruitment so far since Brown took over.

In what world is this an attempt at a quick fix?
