Official: Jack Cogger signs with the Bulldogs

Ridiculous decision by the club.
There is only downside for the kid playing at Newcastle for another season.
The club should grant him a release given he could be in the starting 17 for Canterbury.
We have Peace now because the Roosters granted him a release.

Downside how? Being more developed under a stronger playing group? His a kid still that really hasnt earnt a nrl jumper imo.
Just cause he got one due to our poor roster previously doesnt meant his a walk up nrl half now.
His on 90k for 2018 and has been paid at least 40k of it already, what do Newcastle gain by letting him go? A weaker roster and a thank u from the bulldogs?

^ and with Hodko gone Cogger is second drop for a start in the halves. Seriously, why would we let him go? We benefit nothing at all.

Will say it again, he's costing the Knights bugger all this year. Was reported he was paid a good portion of his 2018's salary in last years cap.

Was either Hodkinson OR Cogger to go... no way we should let both go.

Yeah but don't kid yourself that the club is doing him any favors.

He can wait his turn. I’m sure if Hodko stayed they would have released him. Would it be fair if clubs just terminated a players contract because they were playing crap?

We don’t owe him any favours. We’ve developed him and given him a chance in Grade that he wouldn’t have got at other clubs. With Hodkinson gone we need him for depth.

Did you happen to read Barrett's comments as to why Manly agreed to let Green leave?
Would be more sympathetic if he didnt owe the club absolutely everything for what he is. They spent big money developing him as a halfback over 6 years. Gave him a dream debut at 18, way before he could have hoped or expected. And on the back of that exposure, he is now the subject of legitimate interest from NRL clubs.

We need him for 12 months. He's already signed witj the dogs. Its not a career destroyer by any means

He thinks a guy whos been paid peanuts his whole career whom got a 3yr deal worth 1mil is totally the same as a kid at 19 who has 10yrs in front of him if his managed right and grows to expectations thrown on him.

Im gonna say this guy is a dogs troll.

No but agree with Barrett's comments.
If a player wants to go to a better opportunity what is the point in holding him back.
With Creighton at Souths fair enough he plays out his contract as he is a key part of their 1st grade team. But keeping a guy in reserve grade for depth, sorry I don't agree.

Peace is only here because Roosters released him a year early.
That move effectively blocked Cogger's pathway to first grade.
Let him go if he has chance to play in the 1st 17 at the Dogs.

Depends how you look at it man. Rightly or wrongly, you appear to be taking the view of a player. While myself and others seem to be taking the view of a club

If i were Cogger, I'd be cut too. Even though id know deep down it isnt a stitch up. But I'd probably still be pretty filthy with Brown and the club

Totally agree. And welcome back after your break.

He signed a contract and was lucky to see NRL at all at the age he did.

I doubt the club would have let him go even if Hodkinson stayed. Why would they, it was clear Hodkinson was behind him in the pecking order.

If you take in ages by the time Pearce is done, end 2021?, Cogger will be 24-25yrs and at the top of his game, if successful and becomes a quality player we might have him back. I will be sorry to see him go but wish him well and hope he makes it to the top. Very happy to read that he is using the time here to learn and is putting in the effort, I think Brownie is right he will see some first grade this season.

Do you really think he would ever agree to come back?

I'm sure plenty have left and comeback, Benji Marshall this year back at Tigers. In 3-4 years changes happen, different coach, administrators etc as well as players, money talks especially if at top of game.
It will be entirely up to him, like I said before wish him well.

That is why managers look after the business negotiations. They aren't motivated by pride, sulks, moodiness or loss of face.

Only money!
