Ahhh, fair enough. It's still a **** scenario having a player on your roster injured the year before that probably won't get on the paddock for the entire season.

Kind of ironic how Ricky Stuart was crying a few years ago about not having any rep players at Parra, his quote was ‘You can’t win games without rep players’ now he’s had his two best players suffer long term injuries playing rep games

    Poor Sticky

Watching him on the sidelines during the match it's not hard to imagine him dragging off one of his players jerseys and running on to the field himself.
He could probably still outplay a few of the first choice halfbacks in 2018 given the chance.

He may be over the top and agro after a losing effort, but you can't fault his enthusiasm.

One of those guys who I loved as a player but not so much as a coach, seems to be a common feeling for me towards most players who become coaches

Glad he gets a chance to continue professionally. Two years he'll well & truly prove whether he's a nuffie or can become a big, physical offloading centre. Would have been a shame to see him disappear & never be able prove himself either way, due to lack of top level training.

Regardless, we've moved on & while you could argue whether Brown/Mooney were unfair with letting some players go or too ruthless, you get the sense it's part of a culture change where if a player thinks they're too good for us or playing games to get more money, then tough luck, pack your bags & don't come back.

Agree with this. He has a lot of potential and maybe Souths can unlock that in him. Glad that he's getting a start somewhere, as it seemed to go quiet for him once he rejected the Knights' offer. I hope he kills it there. He seems like a great young kid.

He is the sort of player Wayne gets a lot out of, big, gifted athlete and thick as two short planks.

Signings tracker: Players off-contract in 2019

    Newcastle Knights
    Thu 20 Dec 2018, 11:20 AM

Much has been made of the recruitment for 2019 but how much scope is there for the Club to grow in 2020?

The nib Newcastle Knights have been one of the most active and strategic movers in the player transfer market over the past 24 months, but it doesn't stop here.

The Club will continue to make tweaks to the squad and that includes the retention of off-contract players.

Of the current top 29 contracted for next season, only five men are unsigned for season 2020.

Those players are Jamie Buhrer, Slade Griffin, Hymel Hunt, Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Zac Woolford.

Like most NRL teams, the Club is in no hurry to make any decision on contracts before a ball is kicked.

As always, new deals will have to be earned.

Considering the Knights have the fewest players off-contract of any club in the NRL, the squad is in a good position for the group to develop sustainable combinations.

Below is the list of new signings for the 2019 season and current players who have extended their deals.

    NEW SIGNINGS

    David Klemmer (Bulldogs - 2023)

    Mason Lino (Warriors – 2020)

    Jesse Ramien (Sharks - 2020)

    Tim Glasby (Storm - 2021)

    Edrick Lee (Sharks – 2021)

    James Gavet (Warriors - 2020)

Hymel Hunt (Rabbitohs - until 2019)

    Zac Woolford (Bulldogs - 2019)

    Kurt Mann (Dragons - 2021)

    RE-SIGNINGS

    Josh King (2020)

    Nathan Brown (ongoing contract)

    Sione Mata'utia (2021)

    Jamie Buhrer (2019)

    Star To'a (2021)

    Phoenix Crossland (2021)

    Bradman Best (2022)

    Lachlan Fitzgibbon (2021)

    Beau Fermor (2020)

Simi Sasagi (2020 with two-year option)
