NRLW season 2025 comments

The back page of the Herald today says the first NRLW magic round will be held in Newcastle in 2025.
When the draw is announced it will show 6 games at MJS across 1 weekend in July.
The article has quotes from Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Women Jodie Harrison as well as V'landys.
It says the NSW Government has secured the event for NSW country for the next 3 years, but doesn't say it will be held in Newcastle beyond 2025, so it might depend on how well it goes if it is moved to another town.
I expect there will be some sort of funding for this event, but the article gives no details.
If it is like other magic rounds, there should be a lot of events like coaching clinics, junior games, NSW cup games etc etc - all with some funding.

Pretty fantastic news. After the sell out origin last year expect same type of crowd.

Be stoked to see HN women’s comp played too.

It's a bit odd that there has been no mention or comment from the new Mayor.
If Nelmes was still Mayor she'd be all over this, trying to take credit for it in fact.
The new Mayor came in with all sorts of fanfare, and then people realised he dosen't have the votes to pass anything and no one even bothers to get him to comment on this, which will need a lot of council input to be successful.

He does have the votes from the people of Newcastle but people still in nelmes back pocket and in positions won't allow his changes. He should be able to wipe his hands with all the incompetent staff just making things harder then they need to be.

I posted about no one talking to the Mayor at 2.20 and an article asking the Mayor pops up at 5pm.

Nothing in there about what the council will do to promote Magic round - just says we should get world cup games too in his opinion, and Gardener agrees and says the centre of excellence could be the base for a team.

The article does say that Nelmes and the Townsville Mayor lobbied hard to get SOO to regional towns, and the good crowd we got led to this result, so implies that Nelmes had a big part in getting us the magic round, as well as all the people who showed up.

The article on the Knights site says the State Government has said the NRLW Magic round will go to other regional towns in NSW in 2026 and 27.

I think that will be a disaster. Maybe Gosford might work.

Article about the draw.
Says we only have 1 big road trip and have 6 home games out of 11 games.
Jefferies is quoted in the article.
He says two road trips to Queensland in the final rounds last year "cooked" us a bit, so only 1 big trip in the early rounds and only games at home or in Sydney at the end of the season is good.

Looking at everyone's draw, we are the only side with 6 games at our home ground. All the other sides with 6 "home" games play 1 in the magic round in Newcastle. Our only road trip is round 2 v Cowboys in Townsville in mid winter. Roosters have decided to play us in Gosford, so at a neutral venue. We play Titans, Warriors, Canberra, Broncs and even Dragons in Newcastle, so apart from Cowboys, our biggest trip is to Cronulla.
Jefferies makes the point that we will have more stability with our training sessions with 6 games in Newcastle, 1 at Gosford, 3 in Sydney, and only the one overnight trip.

Interview with Olivia Higgins on ABC radio where she says Yasmin Clydsdale and her are going to be doing RL camps over the summer holidays.
Says they are both teachers and have the holidays off, so can use their teaching skills and football skills to run camps.
I assume this will be a paid thing and a way to make a few extra dollars.
Higgins said here will be surprise guests, etc.
